BIG thank you to the customer yesterday who told me how she makes smothered turkey wings. After you left I tried to write down everything I remembered you saying, and Neal gave it a whirl today for his father's day dinner. It's absolutely amazing, and we're already planning to make it again!

Good morning friends! It's a BEAUTIFUL morning at the Downtown Lee's Summit Farmers Market Summer produce is really starting to come in, and we have your pasture raised meats to complete your meals ☺️

Be sure to grab one of Father's Day bundles, today is their last day!

All of our meat and eggs are raised on rotating pasture with organic and non-gmo feeds for supplemental protein. Know your farmer, know your food 💚

It may not be the prettiest, but it is GOOD, in all the ways. Lettuce mix from Emily, onion from WolfCreekFamilyFarm and our Canadian bacon and egg. Delicious, nutritious, with a small footprint and minimal transportation, and grown in ways that feed the soil rather than just taking from it 🙌 fueling up with a quick lunch and then we'll see you at Mission KS Farmers Market this afternoon! Know your farmers, know your food ❤️

Hey friends! If you've ever wondered if we have something, and it's pork chicken or turkey related, the answer is probably yes.

One thing we sell a lot of and I don't think have ever advertised or photographed is our chicken feet. They are perfect for collagen rich bone broth, and we almost always have them. Just another way we can use the whole animal responsibly.
We're here at the Downtown Lee's Summit Farmers Market until noon today, and every Wednesday and Saturday 8-noon. See you there!

A really great livestock guardian dog will sleep a lot of the day, and patrol through the night. Skye is not a particularly great guardian dog, but she does have one part of the job down pat 😅

Behind the pretty banners and mobile freezers at market is a steady stream of work, every day, all year. It's a good thing we like it and are grateful to get to make it our life!

We mean it when we stand at market and tell your animals only have one bad day. We do our very best to make sure their lives are happy and comfortable, meeting their nutritional, environmental, and social needs.

Even loading and traveling to the processor we keep as low stress as possible. We feed them on the trailer for several days, so that on sorting day they load themselves. By the time a pig is big enough to go to the processor, they've already loaded on and sorted off of the trailer once a month for several months, so they really don't even blink an eye. They will spend the evening in the shade with food and water, and leave at 5:30 in the morning.

We had 2 pigs in another trailer because we loaded them at the old farm a couple of days ago. Introducing them to a new pasture and group would have been too stressful and we didn't think we could get everybody on the same page for an easy load, so we decided to feed and water them on the trailer and then just combine them. After just 3 days on the trailer (only 2 pigs, in a big trailer) they stink. The whole thing was a mess. It was a glimpse into what raising pigs in confinement might look and smell like, and I hated it! I know pigs got a bad reputation for their smell, but our pigs on pasture don't smell. Not any more than any other animal on pasture can. Sure they love their mud, and they need it in the heat, but we make sure they have wet areas available to make a clean mud wallow for themselves. (It's not been hard this year with all the rain 😅)

You can catch us and our pasture raised meats, eggs, and skincare products at Downtown LS Farmers Market , Mission KS Farmers Market , at the farm store on Fridays, or through home delivery available on our website. Just know, if you ask us about our farming practices, we may talk your ear off, but it's only because we love what we do so much!

Know your farmer, know your food 💚
