This was our town day for groceries. That’s why you see all the traffic in the background. Over 200 miles round trip for us. Yes we have a little grocery store in our town but it’s 50% - 70% more, the produce sits for weeks unless you get there when a new shipment comes in and the meat is picked over and questionable. 27,000 square miles of land. Over 80% dirt roads. Many elders don’t drive but even if they did most of us have to have a 4x4 to get down our roads in the winter.

Hat by Sleep Rock Company and I fell a little in love with it. The one that got away. This 3 layer 100% cotton blanket is such a stunner. The colors of the west. Tough like it too. I am not gentle with this blanket and she takes it all. A wash and we're on the road again. A turquoise sky and the purple light in the Canyon. If you want southwestern design, let it come from the west and the people of the west.

When you’re closer to the realities of life, like being bothered by a hurt fawn while scouting for a bow hunt, it makes you think a little more about the price of the things we take. While the Navajo Nation is trust land, meaning not privately owned, this is where people have their homes, their homesites. We come across so many special things that people would probably like to see on social media but I choose to keep those private out of respect. Stay Western.

A common misconception is that you automatically get checks from the federal government if you are native or of native descent. Some get a Per Cap through their tribe. A per capita payment, but most don’t. Many are native, live on the reservation or of native decent but don’t have the documentation to be enrolled so they’re not even eligible to have IHS coverage. It’s a complicated topic.
