Back home, but still not dried out or unpacked from a whirlwind weekend in Delaware at the First State BBQ Bash! While we arrived to nice weather on Friday the rain and wind rolled in and wouldn’t end until long after we pulled out
Aside from the weather, this weekend looked a little different as we kicked things off with fellow Storm & Park Pro Teamer, Leaning Jowler Competition BBQ Team to cook the 4-meat masters comp. We had a lot of fun and liked our entries more than the judges, landing only a 9th place brisket call just as you would expect from a a couple of backyard guys- maybe it was the dusting with bit of Rub Yer Meat. While everything else was middle of the pack, we ended up 18th overall- not bad in a field of 39 great teams. Congrats to Mispillion Meat Works on the win and Susquehanna Smokers on the RGC!
On Sunday we went our separate ways and cooked two meats in the backyard division. We fought rain, wind, mud, dropped ribs and more but once again proved that when it gets tough you gotta put one foot in front of the other and trust the program (and yourself).
Chicken: 4️⃣
Ribs: 🥉
Overall: Grand Champion! 🥇🥇🥇
A huge congrats to fellow J Renee Burkholder who captured her first GC on Day 1! And a great showing from Phil Dixon who marked their 2nd anniversary with back-to-back RGCs. Crazy to think how far you have come from since we first met at your first comp two years ago! Congrats to everyone who heard their name called- it was great to hear so many newer teams get recognized.
Next up, we head back to MD for the MD State BBQ Bash on 10/9-10/10. First up will be the Tailgate on Friday in what will (most likely) be our final backyard contest. Then on Saturday we get the Storm and Park Pro Team back together for a masters cook!
