The man who died Wednesday after a Tesla Cybertruck filled with fuel canisters and fireworks exploded outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas has been identified as 37-year-old Matthew Livelsberger of Colorado.
Livelsberger was an active-duty U.S. Army Green Beret who deployed twice to Afghanistan, according to The Associated Press. He was on approved leave at the time of the incident, according to the U.S. Army.
Surveillance video of the blast shows the vehicle parking directly in front of the Trump hotel before suddenly erupting in flames moments later. The blast sent up a huge column of smoke and injured at least seven others, but caused only minor damage to the hotel.
The FBI is investigating whether the incident was an act of terrorism. Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, is among President-elect Donald Trump's most high-profile supporters, fueling speculation of a political motive.
Officials are also investigating whether the Cybertruck explosion might be connected to the attack in New Orleans earlier Wednesday, when a driver rammed a truck into a crowd of New Year's revelers, killing at least 15 people before being shot to death by police.
