Even though this kitchen had a lot of space to work with, the awkward work triangle and disconnected parts weren’t making the most of it. This family with young kids needed a kitchen they could use efficiently and enjoy together as their kids grow. We adjusted the way the space works , including the flow to other areas and created a cohesive look with the new hood as the focal point. A happy holiday weekend to you all. I hope it’s full of rest and time with your favorite people. I’ll also continue to hope and fight for the most important principles that our country (claims) to be founded on and should be considered non-negotiable: Equal rights for everyone. Freedom to express your opinions and practice your beliefs without fear of the government. To be a place that welcomes diversity and people in need. To be a country that invests in our children and most vulnerable. And I know that we can be a country that works towards peace, education, science backed research for healthier lives and a healthier planet so that we’re building a safer world for each other and the children we are leaving this place to. Otherwise, what has this all been for?

Are you feeling worn out and tired? Like, no matter what, all of the things keep piling up on you? Well, I have good news. Summer is officially here and it’s the last full week that you have to get through before a much needed holiday weekend. ☀️And, if you have a new custom bar, a holiday weekend is that much more exciting. This newly renovated bar area is part of the kitchen, so it has the same cabinet style, but we switched to open shelves above and added an accent backsplash tile to differentiate the space and make it a little more *fun.* We also opened up the wall so that there’s more room to gather everyone around. When we renovated this house’s Kitchen, we wanted to also increase the functionality and visual flow from the Mudroom/Laundry Room since you walk through it from the Garage to get into the Kitchen. A hinged door used to separate the Kitchen and Laundry Room, but to make it easier to unload kids and groceries, we changed it to a pocket door so that the main traffic area can stay open without a door hanging out in the way. But, with a pocket door, they have the option to close it if they ever want to hide their coats and shoes or keep the sound of the laundry being done from being heard in the rest of the house. We painted the walls the color of the kitchen island as a reference to that space when the door is open, put in a soft checkerboard floor for visual interest, added cabinets and custom shelves for storage, and changed out the sink for something a little cuter. You know I love a tiny space challenge, so when my friend asked me to help with their townhouse rental that had just been sitting, partly demo-ed after some water damage because *they didn’t have the time to deal with it* (WHO DOES??!) I said, “Yes of course, 1,000%.” As a rental, budget was a big factor in the choices we made, but you can work with a tight budget and still make choices that add personality and function. U-shaped kitchens are challenging on the best of days, but when they’re tight, it’s even trickier. The layout of the original kitchen and appliances only left room for one base cabinet, so we opened walls and shrank the appliances, which gave us so much more storage space, and then sprinkled in some color to keep things fun. I think she’s still available to rent if you know anyone who needs a two bed/one bath in the amazing (and desirable - that’s what real estate agents say, right?) Cotswold area - reach out to ! Do you feel victimized by all of the dark and moody that’s been posted lately? You’re not entitled to any compensation, but rest easy knowing we can do bright and airy as well. We had a small footprint to work with for this growing family, but with some small adjustments and a little space stolen from an adjacent closet, we were able to give them a full size vanity and additional storage options, plus a new spacious shower with a hinged panel that makes bathing the kids a breeze.
