Hercules Kettle Corn

Hercules Kettle Corn We strive to sell quality kettle corn while telling the story of our nation's forgotten hero, Peter Francisco, aka The Virginia Hercules!

07/11/2024

Hey, y'all this is Josh Bowman, Hercules' descendant, with a few updates for you.

We now have THREE sizes small ($12), Medium ($15), and Large ($20). Classic sweet and salty kettle corn is the only flavor in stock currently, but we are working on supplying more coming soon.

Do you have any flavors you'd like to see next?

Being that the business is named after Virginia Hercules, I thought I'd share a brief bio about him:

His name was Peter Francisco, a 6'6" 260lb Portuguese giant wielding a 6-foot broad sword on the Revolutionary War battlefield, hence the logo of a massive sword. With the strength of a skilled Virginia plantation blacksmith, he dominated his opponents leaving many victories in his wake and 7 monuments standing in honor of his bravery across the globe. "Without him, we would have lost two crucial battles, perhaps the War, and with it our freedom. He was truly a One-Man Army." - George Washington.

There is so much more to his story that I cannot cover it all, such as "How did he get to America if he was Portuguese" or "Why is there a stamp of him carrying a cannon?" If you'd like to know more, please ask! I love talking about my ancestor and his many legendary feats. In fact, the historical novel "Luso: for Love, Liberty, and Legacy" is a fantastic and very entertaining creative retelling of his life!

Ironically, the first records of kettle corn were in 1776 brought over by Dutch settlers. The business was going to be named Hercules anyway, but we found this a funny coincidence.

See you at our next event soon!

*Hercules Kettle Corn is Back in Business!*

It's been a long time, and a LOT has happened, so here's a short synopsis for those of you curious about our journey:

Some of you may know that Hercules Kettle Corn (HKC) was started in 2019 by Joshua Bowman and then sold to Brittany and Andrew Wood in 2021, primarily operating at the Davidson Farmers Market near Charlotte, NC. Unfortunately, in December 2022, the trailer and equipment were stolen from them, making it difficult to restart the business.

Meanwhile, Joshua Bowman went to Colorado for a gap semester program and is currently studying in Virginia Beach at Regent University. As he is about to enter his final year at school, he has decided to restart the business here in Virginia Beach.

We marked the beginning of HKC in Virginia Beach at Back Bay Farmhouse two weeks ago and look forward to coming back soon! We are excited to meet you all and become a part of the VB community, serving quality kettle corn while sharing the story of our forgotten hero, The Virginia Hercules, aka Peter Francisco.

P.S. To our loyal customers in NC who have been patiently waiting for the return of your favorite kettle corn vendor, we understand it must have been hard without your weekly kettle corn fix! Unfortunately, we don’t have plans to return to NC at this time, but we invite you to visit us in Virginia Beach. There is no telling what the future may hold, but for now, Virginia Beach is our home. ❤️
