As Wicked Local put it, our efforts as a “small group of twenty-something activists” will help Cambridge develop the “second-largest compost program on the East Coast”!

The Small Business Compost Pilot’s rollout date is just one month from today on Nov 8th!

We can’t wait to see it in action!

🎉Around 90 applications received for the Cambridge Small Business Compost Pilot!**

While shy of the cap of 100 possible participating restaurants, we are thrilled to see so much enthusiasm for the pilot!

The Small Business Compost Pilot aims to support restaurant food waste reduction while potentially providing cost-savings to restaurants in the form of reduced trash costs. Our hope is that this program will our restaurants continue to recover from the early pandemic while building a more sustainable future.

Based on our early conversations with restaurants, we can confidently say that most restaurants would not have considered composting financially feasible without the pilot program. Excitingly, the majority of applicants for the pilot program represent women or minority-owned businesses who did not compost previously.**

We can’t wait to see the Small Business Compost Pilot in action this November!

Today we are recognizing International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste.

It is an opportunity to raise more awareness of practices and innovations to reduce food loss and waste and build a more resilient food system.

We are thankful to be part of the web of food recovery and waste prevention in Cambridge. We are thankful for local food waste warriors such as .usa &

We advocate for compost as the last step of a system of food waste prevention.

Getting the word out 📣

Cambridge Table to Farm volunteers have been visiting to small restaurants across Cambridge to spread the word about the City’s small business compost pilot! We know the best way to reach restaurants is to go directly to them. That’s why we’ve gone every weekend in September! We’ve visited more than 100 restaurants and have found that the managers and staff seem excited to apply 🎉

Ensuring that our small restaurants are aware that they can apply for this FREE service is important to us. Small restaurants have been severely impacted by the pandemic and this program is part of a green recovery. By composting, small restaurants can potentially save money on trash services while making an impact on our environment.
