I used to think friendship was about the people who laughed the hardest with you.

The older I get, the more I realize it's about the people who stand beside you, feet burning, while you walk through hell.

The ones who hold you while you watch your mother die.
Who answer the phone when you can't stop crying.
Who show up after everyone else has gone home.
Who help clean out a house after someone dies.
Who don't try to fix your grief—they simply refuse to let you carry it alone.

Those are the people who stand in hell with you.
If you're lucky enough to have someone like that in your life, tell them. Tag them below and tell them you love them.

And if you're that person for someone else...Thank you.❤️

Quick heads up!
I'll be traveling for a few days, but I'll still be available by phone, email, and virtual consultations. 🎒👙🚣‍♀️🌄🥂

If you've been thinking about reaching out with questions about caregiving, grief, advance planning, or end-of-life support, I'm still here.

Sometimes the first conversation is the hardest one—and it doesn't have to happen in person or alone.

What's something you still do because of them?

Maybe you stir gravy a certain way.
Plant tomatoes.
Wave at cows.
Drink coffee at 5 a.m.
Fold towels "the right way."

Those little legacies are beautiful. Let's hear them.

Say Their Name Wednesday ❤️

Were you named after someone? I'm curious...
A grandparent?
An aunt?
A family friend?
Someone your parents admired?
A soap opera character your parents like the name?

Tell us their name and a little about them or why your parents picked that name.

The first week after bringing someone home on hospice can feel like absolute chaos.

There are medications to learn, equipment showing up at the door, new faces coming in and out of your home, and about a thousand moments where you'll wonder, "Is this normal?"

The good news? Most of it is.

I wrote this post to walk you through what that first week actually looks like, so you can spend less time worrying about what comes next and more time being present with the person you love.

What does a death doula do when they're NOT with clients?

Today mine looks like:

✔ answering emails-📤
✔ planning Death Café-2 YEARS!! 🎊
✔ reading-🛋
✔ updating my website-🌐
✔ drinking too much coffee ☕

Being a death doula is about so much more than the moments beside a bedside.
What are you working on behind the scenes today??
