Apparently October is the month I'm going to convince everyone to talk about death with me. 💀🖤

I'll be at Young Harris College's Institute for Continuing Learning for a short conversation about what a death doula actually does—and maybe more importantly, why any of us might want one.

We'll talk about some of the things that happen as we age and approach end of life, what is actually normal during the dying process, and how having a little more information can make the whole thing feel a lot less scary.

Because I will continue saying this until everyone is tired of hearing me:

Talking about death doesn't make it happen.

But understanding it can change how we live—and how we care for each other when it does.

This isn't three hours of me standing in front of a room telling you how you're supposed to grieve. I PROMISE.
We're going to talk about how grief actually shows up—in our bodies, our beliefs, our stories, and our everyday lives.
We'll reflect. We'll talk. We'll meditate. We'll learn some practical tools. And we'll make some room for grief instead of constantly trying to push it away.

I'll go first...

Two days before my mom died, she was experiencing terminal agitation and kept trying to get up and walk when she absolutely could not safely walk. At some point, all my years of nursing and caregiving wisdom culminated in:
"JUDY! SIT THE FUGG DOWN." 😂 (disclaimer, I didn't say 'fugg' 🤭🤣

And before anybody comes for me—she was MY mama. I was allowed. 😂

Caregiving can be heavy as hell. We're allowed to laugh at the ridiculous parts, too.
