The Sugar Beats Blues Band brings a high-energy mix of blues, boogie-woogie, New Orleans grooves, funk, gospel, soul, and roots music to stages throughout Michigan.

Featuring Zig Zeitler (Zydeco Ziggie) and Curtis McLeod, the Sugar Beats are built around seasoned musicianship, spontaneous energy, and a love for keeping the music loose, soulful, and fun. Zig brings a distinctive blend of harmonica, guitar, strings, vocals, and roots influences, while Curtis drives the sound from the piano with a style heavily influenced by barrelhouse blues, boogie-woogie, New Orleans piano, and funk.

Rather than simply recreating the blues, the Sugar Beats pull from the many styles that grew out of it. One song might settle into a slow, soulful groove before the next turns into a pounding piano boogie, funky New Orleans jam, gospel number, or full-band blues shuffle.

At the heart of every Sugar Beats show is the interaction between the musicians and the audience. Solos stretch out, songs take unexpected turns, and no two performances are exactly alike.
