They deserve love. Rest easy sweet pup.

We honor the last leg of Dannie's life journey, a sweet little Tibetan Spaniel that joined the Classics family in March as a stray dog from an apartment complex in S Austin. Dannie reached Austin Animal Services with nothing to call her own, not a collar, not a microchip, not a person to claim her as their own, only vague memories perhaps. Believed to be about 12, she harbored many geriatric conditions, most notably her muscles had been wasting away and she was just 32 lbs. Yet she showed us the will and spirit that told us "it's not my day, not here, not today in a shelter" and we looked for a foster and didn't have to look far because her pro foster was already in lock step, ready to take her on.
With the will to battle back the flames of aging, and a little lady with the spirit to succeed, her care team was formed and for a few weeks we succeeded in helping Dannie reach new plateaus to manage her significant IVDD, until we simply could provide no more progress. Over the last two weeks of Dannie's life, she took substantial steps backward as her condition began worsening as the IVDD progressed and began impacting her respiratory function. Unfortunately treatments were not fully effective to rollback the hands of time. Dannie's spirit was very much still wishing to go further, but her body simply was not capable of carrying her along. She was granted the freedom to rest on May 28th. It was a tough blow, we hoped for far longer, but we are also grateful for what time she was granted, remembering back to the sweet little girl who arrived with nothing at all to her credit. She left this earth with an entire family behind her - Amy & Lito and their kids and a special play friend in golden retriever Sandy. This is the portion of a dog's journey that means the most, to be present for and accounted for. And to do that for someone else's dog that was abandoned takes compassion and selflessness. It's a gift of life. It's the tough part of life. It's the part we don't run away from. It's the part we celebrate so we keep their spirits bright, until the very last moment, and we'll grieve in our own ways later. This is what foster families go through. It's a tough job but they and we know how important the job is.
We thank Amy & Lito and their family for providing that 3 month hospice for Dannie, and for adopting Dannie to give her a family name so she didn't go into oblivion as just another shelter dog. We honor you both, and we honor all fosters who share this path with their own foster dogs, leaving only their own footsteps in the sand in the end, having carried their foster pet through the tough patch.
In peace Dannie, we were honored to walk with you for the most important part of your life's journey 🌈⭐️💫✨
We thank our donors and Dr Parson's care team at White Rock Veterinary Hospital - without you all, we would not be able to sponsor help at all.
