It was such a special evening with this beautiful family. ❤️

Sweet Lucas and Lincoln absolutely stole my heart. They told me it was “the best night ever” and that The Uncommon Table is now their favorite place on earth — words I don’t think I’ll ever forget.

But the most beautiful moment of the entire evening came at the very end.

After they released their wishing lanterns into the night sky, we all gathered together in a little circle, and they began to pray for us. We prayed together for quite some time — for their family, for love, for strength, and for all that lies ahead.

It was one of those quiet, sacred moments that simply cannot be planned or created. It just happens… and you know you’re standing in the middle of something very special.

They came to our table carrying a tremendous loss, and somehow, before the evening was over, they gave something beautiful back to us.

I will carry that moment — and those two sweet boys — in my heart for a very long time. ❤️

Sometimes the most unforgettable things that happen At Our Table have nothing at all to do with the food. ❥

Last night, at our table, we had the honor of hosting a celebration of life for a beloved son, husband, and father of two sweet little boys, ages 7 and 5.

My heart feels especially tender for those two boys. Having lost my own father at a young age, I know how deeply that kind of loss can shape a child’s world. I wanted their time here on the farm, by the river, and around our table to hold a little extra warmth — something peaceful, memorable, fun and filled with light.

So I put together these small woodland-inspired gift boxes just for them, with little treasures that reflect life here on the farm and carry a bit of meaning for the road ahead — a compass to help them find their way, binoculars to remind them to keep looking forward, a woodland friend for comfort, a heart to remind them that love goes with them wherever they go, and a small piece of pre-1965 silver to keep as a treasure along the way. I added a little note for them too.

Sometimes there are no words big enough for loss. But we can still offer kindness, comfort, beauty, and a place to gather.

Last night, we hope our table gave this family a gentle place to remember, to love, and to simply be together. ❤️

✨ What a magical evening at The Uncommon Table! ✨

Last night was one of those evenings that reminded me exactly why I love creating these dinners so much. This group was an absolute joy — fun, gracious, generous, and ready to soak up every little bit of the experience. ❥

And their menu was pretty special, too…

🥗 Bright Garden Salad
with our Signature Vinaigrette & Ranch

🥖 Fresh Sourdough Bread

🥩 Beef Tenderloin Medallions
finished with a rich Gorgonzola cream sauce

🌿 Charred Brussels Sprouts
with smoky bacon, sun-dried cranberries, sweet balsamic gastrique, maple crème fraîche, and a crisp fresh apple garnish

🥔 Roasted Fingerling Potatoes
with smashed garlic and rosemary

🍓 Berry Chantilly Cake
layers of fluffy vanilla sponge cake, almond-scented mascarpone cream cheese frosting, and fresh berries throughout

But dinner wasn’t quite the end of the evening…

After everyone released their wishing lanterns into the night sky, I had one more little surprise waiting for them — a firework display over The Uncommon Table. 🎆✨

The glow of the lanterns, the fireworks, the laughter around the table, the beautiful summer night…

It was spectacular. Truly one of those evenings you wish you could bottle up and keep forever. ❥

Because sometimes dinner is about so much more than the food.

It’s about gathering around a table, slowing down, celebrating each other, and creating a memory you’ll still be talking about long after the last plate has been cleared.

✨ A Very Special Celebration at The Uncommon Table ✨

Everything came together beautifully for a truly special evening celebrating Dick & Harriet turning 90, along with their daughter Jill’s 60th birthday. ❤️

The menu was filled with family favorites, which made the evening even more meaningful.

🥩 Gorgeous 2” Thick Ribeyes — Jill’s dad’s favorite
🍠 Caramelized Sweet Potatoes with Maple, Feta & Crunchy Walnuts — Jill’s mom’s favorite
🌽 Grilled Corn on the Cob — Jill’s favorite

And to finish the celebration, a beautifully decorated yellow layer cake with raspberry filling, served with vanilla bean ice cream. 🎂✨

There’s just something extra special about gathering around the table to celebrate the people you love — especially when the meal is filled with the foods that mean something to them.

Such a lovely family, and such a beautiful evening to be a small part of. ❥
