The ugly things nobody talks about as small business owners:
•You are fully dependent on yourself to pay your bills and when you are in the first 2-5 years is the most challenging.
•For a lot of us, there’s no salary, no benefits, no insurance, no weekends off, no sick days, no just taking the day off when you want , and there is no such thing as being “done”,especially in the beginning .
•Once you force yourself to hire employees (because you can’t do it all)…you pay them before you pay yourself. And a side note outside of your immediate family, don’t hire family or friends, it’s the quickest way to lose your relationships 🥲
•Small business loans aren’t for small businesses. They are difficult and almost impossible for most first time business owners to get.
•People will think you’re a millionaire because you make sales and “look successful” . When you actually haven’t made $1 because you have to reinvest every single dollar for the first few years.
•You feel like you’re letting down almost everyone in your life because there’s not enough of you to go around.
•Some days feel really really lonely.
•The weight of peoples expectations on you feel really heavy sometimes. They’re quick to let you know how you’re falling short. Your best is never enough.
•You work 365 days a year and 16 hours a day
•You watch people doing huge things around you and you have to keep your peace and stay focused and not allow comparison to creep in
•You’re desperate for a vacation
•Some days I cry… but oddly enough, I never want to quit. I believe in myself, I believe in my Agency. I believe the dream God has placed in me and for those reasons I keep going . I’ll never give up.
•This is the stuff nobody wants to talk about. I just push through knowing in the end, I’ll look back and know I pave the path for my kids and others with big dreams!
•I’m not sharing this for pity at all but it’s been a challenging year and sometimes it helps to lay it all out.
This isn’t an easy journey and it gets exhausting waking up to a new hurdle every single day.
If you know any other small business owners please know that this translates to them as well and give them grace.
As always I appreciate your support .
