If you’ve ever met me (Andy) then you know I get VERY attached to our flock. I work with every one of them to make them friendly & cuddly and I spend ALOT of time with them. They’re less like “chickens” and more like pets.

Unfortunately I went outside to feed and found all of our teenagers (15) and a few hens unalived and left all over the yard. While all of our breeding pins are safe, unfortunately our free-range laying flock was the target.

After my full-on mental break down and my husband calming me down, I’m hatching a game plan and looking to rebuild. Our laying hens consist of breeds I love but don’t breed (Bahamas, cuckoo marans, lavender Orpingtons, etc.)

Unfortunately our grow outs did contain a new breed that we were growing to add to the list of breeds available for y’all. Speckled Sussex. And breeds we were growing to add to pins to start offering next season, sorted marans, ermine Americaunas, white Americaunas, and sorted multi-gen olive eggers.

So while this seasons hard work is completely erased, we won’t let that stop us. The incubator is back on and ready to rebuild.
