✨Staff Spotlight✨

Everyone help us love and welcome Mrs. Ashonda Deason to the agency as our new administrative assistant! We are so thrilled and honored to have her join our staff.

She holds her Business Management degree from Tennessee Technological University. Before joining Hope, Ashonda was an administrative assistant at Highland Rim Academy.

Ashonda and her husband, Daniel, have three children - Ella, Evan, and Cyrus. Adoption is personal for Ashonda as her family welcomed their youngest member Cyrus through adoption. We are so grateful to have her on staff!

I hear all of your concerns about traffic.

Let me try to be clear here, the city council is voting on a zoning change only. This property is rated general commercial meant for retail spaces currently. A rezoning to light industrial would include business like storage units. Simple put:General Commercial is primarily about selling goods and services to customers, while Light Industrial is primarily about making, storing, processing, or distributing goods.

I hear your concerns on traffic. I have already suggested a traffic study.

For this particular issue, it is just about what the property is zoned. It could currently be developed for retail space as it is.

Did you know...

That beauty in the middle is the truck that picks up trash 5 days a week.

Commercial pickups are on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and residential pickup is Tuesday and Thursday.

I did not know that all residents got picked up in only two days!

📍 Rezoning Request – Highway 111 & Quinland Lake Road

I wanted to take a few minutes to explain an upcoming zoning matter that the Algood City Council will be considering next month so that everyone has the same information and understands what is actually being proposed.

The property located at the corner of Highway 111 and Quinland Lake Road is currently zoned General. The church that owns the property is selling it, and the prospective buyer has requested that the property be rezoned to Light Industrial.

The reason for the requested zoning change is related to easement/access issues with the property and the way the proposed development would need to be configured.

So, what is being proposed for the property?

The buyer's plan is to develop a business park consisting of smaller spaces that could be rented to local businesses. Think of it as a location where smaller businesses could have their own space without needing to build or purchase an entire building themselves. See attached pictures for an idea of the concept.

A very important point:
The vote that took place at the September 8 City Council meeting was not a final approval of the rezoning.

The September 8 vote was the first reading. The purpose of that vote was to determine whether the rezoning request should move forward to a second reading. It did, which means the request will now come back before the City Council for further consideration.

The second reading is where the public will have an opportunity to speak, either in support of or with concerns about the proposed zoning change.

I want our citizens to have the opportunity to understand what is being proposed before the Council considers the matter further. Rezoning a piece of property is an important decision, and it is appropriate for citizens to ask questions, learn about the proposed use, and share their thoughts.

The City's zoning ordinance defines Light Industrial (I-1) as a district intended for uses such as light manufacturing, assembly, storage, warehousing, wholesaling, distribution, offices and business services, among other specifically permitted uses.

📅 The next City Council meeting is October 13 at 6:00 p.m. at Algood City Hall, 215 W. Main Street. The public is invited to attend.

I hope this helps clear up what is being considered. My goal is to make sure our citizens are informed about what is happening, understand the process, and have an opportunity to be heard.

The bike event is set and ready to go!

Come over to the Algood Community center for a family event to support the Carmen's Fund.

Carmen passed away during a surgery but was a beloved member of the first responders community. This event helps support CPR training for free!

The event is perfect for all families and great free event. Open until noon today!
