In our house, lasagna was reserved for only a few occasions: funerals, Christmas, and Easter. While this spring hasn't provided us an abundance of celebrations, I'm still making lasagnas for arguably the most important date on the Italian-American calendar. Order up a family dinner for this Sunday: Meat lasagna (no meat options available), fresh-baked bread, and family-size salad for pickup...$55! Add any wine on our list for 20% off with your meal. Call me to place your order by 2pm on Saturday at 703-548-9338. Remember, as Garfield once said, lasagna is "nature's most perfect food!"

Ok, I'll be honest. This photo is not actually OUR pizza delivery driver. But as of today, we do in fact HAVE a pizza delivery driver! We have been able to bring back a couple of our furloughed employees who volunteered to bring hot, delicious Italian-American food right to your door. Starting tonight, we're offering free delivery to any address in Old Town. Anyone outside of that area can still order through UberEats. AND, we're also running a special on those pizzas - buy 1, get 1 half-off! Soon the streets of Old Town will be full of the sights and smells of these pizza-wielding heroes...Wave to them from inside of your germ-resistant windows! Salute them from the other side of your closed door! And if the anticipation of these brave bread and cheese couriers isn't enough to put a smile on your face in these trying times, we also deliver wine.

Today I'm reminded of growing up in New Jersey in the 80's...most every Friday night, especially during Lent, was pizza night. A couple of Blockbuster rentals, the latest video games, and bottles and bottles of orange soda made staying home seem more fun than going out. And of course, we didn't have pizza chains or trendy pizza kitchens. My family would get a pie from a local pizzeria. Giant slices, a little greasy, hand-tossed; the only pizza acceptable for Friday night dinner (and Saturday morning breakfast).

These days it's Netflix, not Blockbuster. And wine, not orange soda. But Kelsi and I are going to have a Friday night right out of 1985. Maybe it seems we're all forced to do that right now. But even when this is all over, I know my family is going to try to spend a few more Friday nights like this again - next time, voluntarily.

We are open from 5-9pm tonight for carry out pizza, pasta, and wine (or soda). And you can also find us on UberEats. Thank you for supporting us. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to trounce my wife in Pac-Man.

Eat out AND stay isolated?

Starting tonight, we are exclusively booking the best table in the house. Well, actually, it's now the ONLY table in the house.

Call me and reserve this table in front of our fireplace. You and your significant other, friend, whomever
will get a completely private chef's dinner with wine pairing. You will be the only guests in the room. It's safe and it's delicious. You will get 5 courses, wine pairings, and some of my bad jokes for $200 per couple.

AND...For every private wine dinner reservation we receive, I will also donate the same experience to two people in Old Town who work in the hospitality industry and are currently out of work due to the closures and cutbacks. You're helping us stay in business, and you're helping folks in our neighborhood have a much needed night out. And I promise you it'll be one of the best meals of your life! Call for reservations: 703-548-9338.

Friends of Little Italy - we're of course living in some surreal times right now. We genuinely hope everyone is healthy and stays that way throughout this ordeal. As many of our fellow restaurants and small businesses have been telling you, we too have taken extra precautions and implemented procedures to ensure the safety and health of our staff and guests. The small businesses of Old Town have to hunker down to face the reality of an economic crisis as well as the medical one. A lot remains to be seen. For the time being, we intend to stay open and serve the public in whatever capacity we can. That said, we are adjusting some things.

Our menu is being edited to reflect changes in product availability, feasibility, and the needs of our customers. It is apparent that with the cancelation of events and performances, less people are dining out and even far less are interested in fine dining right now. Customers are also concerned about how this situation will affect personal finances, and so they are justifiably practicing frugality.

Starting tomorrow, and for the foreseeable future, we are adjusting our menu to a more casual, simple version that travels well for take-home, and is more affordable for our guests. We will be initiating some promotions online and in our restaurant to maximize value, and to serve the needs of our neighborhood. We are currently using UberEats, and Slice for delivery, however if you are in the close proximity of our restaurant and cannot get out or afford these services, please call us and we will do everything we can to get you a good dinner. Likewise for those who rely on school breakfast and lunch. If you are, or know a family that is in need of nutrition that is no longer available to them, please call me. No one will go hungry on my watch.

We will also be offering family dinner packages that include larger portions of pastas and proteins. It is important that we continue to eat well and be with our families during this trying time. Our restaurant, and Italian-American culture, is all about togetherness and taking care of our loved ones. And even during times of social distancing, we all need a good meal.

I thank you for your support now more than ever. Like after every storm, the sun will shine again. And when it does, I'll meet you on the patio for an Aperol Spritz. In the meantime, have an extra slice of pizza, and watch "Moonstruck" with your sweetie.

-Michael

35+ New Restaurants in Alexandria, VA: Hot Chicken, Old-School Sweets, Cat Café and More

As a small, family-run restaurant in Old Town, we rely on word of mouth and recommendations from our guests and members of the community. We are so happy to be living and doing business in Old Town along with other truly great small businesses. We support our fellow locally-owned restaurants and shops, and we hope that everyone in town sees the value in choosing to spend their money at establishments like ours. We do our best to make it worth your while and add something unique to our beautiful town. In February, we were thankful to be aided in our publicity campaign for our new name by many outlets including VIP Alexandria Magazine, Old Town Crier Regional Magazine, and Visit Alexandria VA. Thank you to these organizations and others for helping small businesses spread the word in Old Town! This weekend, and every day as consumers in Alexandria, please please please think about how much it means to locally-owned small businesses that you patron them. You are helping to directly support families, their staff and families, and a local workforce. You are helping to support entrepreneurs who take leaps to fulfill a dream and add something special to the community. And you are getting an experience, a product, and an atmosphere that is exclusively available to you as residents and visitors of Old Town Alexandria. #leapday #oldtownalexandria
