My Twezi story.

Most people only tell the story after it works. That version is clean. This one is not. This series documents the quiet work of building a fintech while doubt is still present and outcomes are still uncertain. It is written from inside the process, not after the applause. There will be no names, no hype, no shortcuts. Only decisions, errors, reversals, and steady progress.

I am sharing this because founders are taught to perform with confidence, not to practice endurance. Yet endurance is the real strategy and capital. The real differentiator.

You need strategy because the obstacles exist

Since April 2024, I have been building a fintech, and it’s tough.

Obstacles at every turn. It’s as if everyone you approach for partnership has conspired to frustrate you! They set up obstacles as if to trap you.

With hindsight, this is proving the best. You think better and more clearer. The more the obstacles, the better the thinking. You are forced to think, focus and execute. And come to think of it, going through hard times in your early life hardens your muscles and memory only and only if you find a way to channel the frustrations into motivation fuel to win.

I learned this early watching traders move produce from Hoima to Kampala during the rainy season. The mud was not a problem. It was the route. Those who waited for dry roads never traded. Those who learned to move through mud built businesses.

That is strategy.

Most leaders think strategy is about removing obstacles. That is planning. Strategy is about winning because the obstacles exist.

If the road were smooth, everyone would use it. Competition would explode. Margins would vanish. The obstacle is the filter. It rewards those who think clearly, adapt fast, and endure longer.

In boardrooms, leaders complain about regulation, culture, legacy systems, politics, or limited capital as if these are exceptions. They are not. They are the terrain.

A strategist does not ask for better conditions. He designs for reality. He turns constraints into advantage.

Here is the contrarian truth. If your strategy only works when things are easy, it is not a strategy. It is a wish.

Real strategy answers one question: given these constraints, how do we still win?

Obstacles do not block strategy. They define it. If you lack obstacles, find a way to create them because you grow more when obstacles are in your way!
