Kasangali Market Day

Nestled 7 kilometers deep into the breathtaking Kasese mountain ranges, the village of Kasangali at an altitude of 1,520 meters, comes alive every Friday. From afar, vibrant colors burst forth from a cluster of tents, each brimming with the day's fresh harvest and various goods. As the sun rises, vendors set up their stalls, showcasing fruits, vegetables, and handmade crafts, creating a tapestry of life and commerce against the stunning mountain backdrop.

For the coffee farmers, this day is especially crucial. After a week of labor, they gather their hard-earned revenues from coffee sales to purchase food and household essentials. The air buzzes with excitement, as villagers eagerly anticipate the arrival of friends and neighbors, making it impossible to schedule any other plans. Market day is a celebration of community and livelihood, where laughter, haggling, and the promise of fresh produce fill the air, turning an ordinary Friday into the ultimate expression of togetherness and tradition.

Today, the Kwezi Coffee team had the incredible opportunity to immerse themselves in the beauty of 𝗞𝗶𝗯𝗮𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸. Known for its lush forests and rich biodiversity, this gem in Uganda is a haven for bird watchers.⁣
⁣
Kibaale National Park is geographically close to the Rwenzori Mountains, where 𝗞𝘄𝗲𝘇𝗶 𝗖𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗲 is grown. The rich volcanic soils and high altitudes of the Rwenzori's create ideal conditions for cultivating this exceptional coffee. The proximity of these two natural wonders highlights the deep connection between Uganda’s diverse landscapes and its remarkable produce.⁣

Kibaale is home to over 375 bird species, including some rare and endemic varieties. As visitors ventured through the park's diverse habitats, from dense rainforests to open grasslands, they marveled at the vibrant colors and enchanting songs of the birds. Highlights of the day included spotting the majestic African Grey Parrot and the elusive Green-breasted Pitta.⁣

The 𝐊𝐰𝐞𝐳𝐢 𝐂𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦 recently embarked on a journey to the 𝐑𝐰𝐞𝐧𝐳𝐨𝐫𝐢 𝐌𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬 in 𝐊𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐭, known as the Mountains of the Moon, ⁣

Our journey began at the nurseries, where young seedlings are carefully nurtured to ensure they grow into healthy, productive plants. 🌱⁣
⁣
From there, we met the dedicated farmers and followed the beans through each stage—from harvesting ripe cherries to drying and hulling. Each step was a testament to the dedication and skill that goes into every cup of Kwezi Coffee.⁣

This journey deepened our appreciation for the artistry behind every sip and the connection between the coffee, the land, and the community that brings it to life. ☕⁣
