Each day, through the window of my business, I gaze out into the busy world.
Last Wednesday, like every new day, I did the very same, and that’s when I saw him… a man…looked around 68 or 70, tall with an average size, walking slowly, a small white bag in his hand.
He came and stood beneath my awning, leaning a bit on the counter as if to rest - quietly, not looking towards the business or inside at my breakfast spread, but outwards at the chaos before him, as if thinking: Where Do I Go Next? Then he walked away with a drifting gait, further inside the compound.
A few minutes later I saw him again, he walked … paused… was about to go left, then right, and eventually sat on the
concrete pad opposite me, still clutching the white plastic bag in his hand.
He looked tired …worn out- even hopeless.
I didn’t know him and I didn’t have to know him to recognise his stress, as I decoded his body language, but I felt certain he was famished.
He got up to go again and I called out to him through the serving window…he looked, and started walking towards me as I motioned him to come.
Would You Like Some Breakfast? I asked him, and he nodded politely and accepted my offer.
How Did You Know? He asked quietly - or more like weakly…
It Was Divine intervention I told him ☝🏽pointing upwards👉 The Almighty🤍
He smiled and gathered what I gave to him, thanked me and left.
My eyes were filled, and my heart felt compassion for this stranger I knew nothing about.
I was reminded of those periods in my life when I had to navigate myself through some pretty delicate spaces(it wasn’t easy) and I’m not alone in this I know.
How much does it actually take out of us or cost us to help a complete stranger who never once asked, never made a scene or caused disruption to receive assistance - a warm meal, a soothing cup of tea?
It takes nothing actually.
When you give, whether through acts of kindness, support, or generosity, it creates a powerful positive ripple effect.
If we can pause… just for a moment and Notice - just notice, It would take nothing out of us to bless that person who didn’t ask us, that person who just sat there quietly, hopeful, worrying about their next meal in a world where over one billion tonnes of food are thrown away each day.
I don’t have to notice enough to care… I just care enough to notice. I know what it’s like to be blessed and I have no hesitation in blessing others in whichever way I can.
Generosity generates something…
It creates something…
From nothing, generosity breathes life and regenerates something beautiful.
Dr. Monty C Wright wrote: Generosity is not simply about money and wealth. It is a lifestyle that is always humming with creative goodness that brings light to dark places, food to starving spaces and beauty to desolate places.
