Bhogi is the first day of the Pongal festival, mainly celebrated in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and parts of Karnataka.
It marks a time of renewal, gratitude and transition
Bhogi symbolizes letting go of old possessions, habits, and negativity. People discard worn-out items to make way for new beginnings
Bhogi Mantulu (in Telugu)
Traditional bonfire is lit early in the morning, where old household items are burned. This represents cleansing and renewal
Honouring five elements of nature - Land /earth; water; fire; space; wind -thanking five elements of nature for a good harvest and praying for prosperity
It marks the start of the four-day Pongal celebrations, Bhogi; Thai Pongal; Mattu Pongal and kaanum Pongal
Farmers celebrate the successful harvest season and prepare for the new agricultural cycle
