Talvez sejam as duas coisas.

It's called Estrela da Serra, and yes, the name is no accident.
Some mornings I open my front door and the mountain is right there, almost saying good morning. I grew up hearing about Serra cheese — the kind you save for special occasions, cut with care, that tastes like celebration. And juniper... juniper is the smell of a walk, of scrubland warmed by the sun, of those plants you crush between your fingers just to keep the scent on your skin a little longer.
We added that to chouriço made by people from right here in Beira, who still slow-smoke their meat the old-fashioned way. A base of tomato, melting fior di latte, and on top a cloud of fresh rocket with juniper adding that note you can't quite explain — you just have to taste it.
I don't know if it's the memory Estrela da Serra brings back, or the flavour itself. Maybe both. Maybe it's impossible to separate what we eat from the place we live.
And you — what's the smell or taste that takes you back to the mountains? 🌿⛰️
