🇸🇪 GroundWork General Assembly | Sweden, 21–23 October 2026 🌱🐄

Three inspiring days of collaboration, knowledge exchange, and hands-on learning at the GroundWork General Assembly, hosted by the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Alnarp, Sweden!

🌍 Partners from across Europe came together to share progress from the GroundWork Living Labs, discuss fieldwork methodologies, animal welfare assessments, and the next steps towards more sustainable and regenerative livestock farming systems.

🚜 A major highlight was the opportunity to visit three Swedish farms: Nyhovs Gård, Forsby ängar, and Sjövången Angus!

These field visits provided valuable opportunities to connect with local farmers, explore Swedish agricultural systems, exchange practical experiences, and reflect on the opportunities and challenges of integrating soil health, biodiversity, and livestock production.

🌱 From research to real farms! These exchanges are at the heart of GroundWork, connecting scientists, farmers, and stakeholders to co-create practical solutions for healthier soils, more resilient pastures, and sustainable livestock farming.

🤝 A big thank you to SLU, Svensk Kolinlagring, the participating farmers, and all GroundWork partners for the warm welcome, insightful discussions, and inspiring farm visits! All About Soil

🌱🔬 From the field to science: Monitoring soil and pasture health in the Beira Interior Living Lab!

Over the past few weeks, the Monte Silveira Farm team, together with researchers from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon and the FAST research group from the University of Coimbra, has been conducting an extensive soil and pasture sampling campaign across the GroundWork Beira Interior Living Lab, in Portugal. 🇵🇹

🌾 From soil sampling and compaction assessments to pasture biomass measurements and vegetation surveys, this collaborative fieldwork is helping us establish a scientific baseline to better understand soil health, pasture dynamics and the interactions between livestock and Mediterranean ecosystems.

🔬 These measurements are a crucial first step towards evaluating the impacts of regenerative grazing practices on soil health, biodiversity, pasture productivity and ecosystem resilience.

🤝 GroundWork is all about bringing farmers, researchers and local communities together, combining scientific knowledge with practical farming experience to co-create solutions for healthier soils and more resilient agricultural landscapes.

💚 A big thank you to all the researchers, farmers and team members involved in this campaign. Great science starts in the field, and collaboration is key to turning knowledge into meaningful change!

Healthy soils. Resilient pastures. Regenerative futures. 🌍

🌱 Connecting farms, people and communities through regeneration! 🇵🇹-🇪🇸

On 10 October, the Monte Silveira Farm team visited La Junquera Farm in Spain, and joined the Festival Raíces del Quípar, organised by the Regeneration Academy

🌾 A wonderful day celebrating regenerative agriculture, rural traditions, biodiversity, local food and, above all, the people working to bring life back to our landscapes.

From exchanging experiences on regenerative grazing and soil health to discovering local products, participating in workshops and connecting with farmers and local communities, the festival showed us that regeneration goes far beyond farming: its also about restoring connections between people, nature and territories. 🌍

🤝 A big thank you to the La Junquera Farm and Regeneration Academy teams for the warm welcome and for creating such an inspiring space for knowledge exchange, collaboration and community engagement.

💚 Different farms, different landscapes, one shared mission: regenerating our soils, ecosystems and rural communities!

The Monte Regen Hub project (Project PL25-00042) is supported by the Promove Programme of the “la Caixa” Foundation, in collaboration with BPI and the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).

🌱Monte Silveira Farm meets EARA | European Alliance for Regenerative Agriculture in Brussels🌱

On 29 September, João Valente represented Monte Silveira Farm at “Financing the Farm Transition: From Pilots to Practice”, organised by the EARA | European Alliance for Regenerative Agriculture European Alliance for Regenerative Agriculture in Brussels.

The event brought together farmers, financial institutions, insurers, policymakers and organisations working across Europe to address one of the major challenges facing regenerative agriculture today:

How do we move from successful pilots to financing regenerative farming at scale?

João joined the panel “Insurance Products for Farm Transition”, bringing the farmer perspective into the discussion alongside representatives from Crédit Agricole and CrowdFarming.

For Monte Silveira Farm, participating in these discussions is particularly important. Farmers are already delivering benefits that extend far beyond food production - healthier soils, biodiversity, carbon sequestration, water resilience and more resilient landscapes.

The challenge now is to build financial systems capable of recognising, rewarding and accelerating those outcomes.

A great opportunity to exchange perspectives, build new connections and ensure that farmers remain at the centre of the conversation on how Europe finances its agricultural transition. 🌍🌾

🌱 Connecting people, projects and ideas to boost soil health across Europe 🌱

Last week, David Miguel Ribeiro and Diogo Pinho represented Monte Silveira Farm at the Soils for Europe Conference, held at the Universidade de Coimbra from 7–11 September.

🎤 David presented the GroundWork Project (All About Soil ) through the talk “GroundWork – Living Labs to bridge the gap between soil health and livestock integration in grazing systems: the case of Portugal”, sharing how Living Labs can connect research, farmers and practical solutions for healthier soils and more resilient grazing systems.

📊 Diogo presented “Monte Silveira as a lighthouse farm: Co-creating Scalable Soil Health Solutions through Multi-actor Engagement and European Research Networks”, highlighting the work developed through GroundWork and the Monte Regen Hub projects to turn the farm into a space for experimentation, demonstration, knowledge exchange and collaboration.

But conferences are much more than presentations.

They are also about meeting friends and colleagues, creating new connections, exchanging experiences and learning from people working on soil health across Europe.

These moments of networking and knowledge sharing are essential to bridge science and practice, strengthen European collaboration and accelerate the transition towards healthier soils and more resilient farming systems.

🌿 O Monte Silveira no Salva a Terra EcoFestival 2026 🌿
