OVER ₱22-M MA*****NA PLANTS DESTROYED IN CORDILLERA DRUG OPS

The Philippine National Police (PNP) successfully conducted two separate ma*****na eradication operations in the Cordillera Administrative Region on April 29, 2026, resulting in the destruction of more than 114,000 fully grown ma*****na plants with an estimated standard drug price reaching over PhP22.8 million.

In Tinglayan, Kalinga, joint operatives from the PNP Special Action Force and anti-illegal drug units, in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and local police units, discovered and uprooted an estimated 54,000 fully grown ma*****na plants planted across a hillside area of about 5,400 square meters. The plants, valued at approximately PhP10.8 million, were immediately destroyed on site.

A separate operation in Kibungan, Benguet led to the uprooting and destruction of around 60,000 fully grown ma*****na plants with an estimated value of PhP12 million. The operation covered multiple plantation sites within a remote upland area and was carried out through coordinated efforts of regional anti-illegal drug units and partner agencies.

PNP Chief, Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., underscored that these sustained operations reflect the organization’s strengthened campaign against illegal drug cultivation in remote areas.

“Patuloy po ang ating operasyon sa mga liblib na lugar para matigil ang pagtatanim ng ilegal na droga. Hindi tayo titigil—this is part of our commitment to protect our communities,” the Chief PNP said.

He added that the intensified efforts are aligned with the directives of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to ensure safer communities through a more focused and proactive policing strategy. These operations are being carried out under the PNP Focused Agenda, particularly the Enhanced Managing Police Operations framework, which strengthens coordination and rapid response against illegal drug activities.

The PNP emphasized that it will continue to work closely with partner agencies and local communities to prevent the re-establishment of ma*****na plantations in the area.

As the campaign continues, the PNP reaffirmed its commitment to a more responsive and community-centered policing approach, anchored on the message of “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman.”

PNP CAPTURES NATIONAL MOST WANTED WITH ₱145K REWARD LINKED TO MULTIPLE VIOLENT CASES

The Philippine National Police (PNP), through coordinated law enforcement operations led by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), successfully arrested a National Most Wanted Person early morning of April 29 in Marilao, Bulacan.

The suspect, a 23-year-old Filipino male, was apprehended at around 4:15 AM in Sitio Dulo-Kanan, Barangay Abangan Sur, by virtue of multiple Warrants of Arrest for Illegal Discharge of Firearm, Frustrated Murder, and two counts of Murder.

No bail was recommended for the murder charges, while other cases carried corresponding bail amounts. A ₱145,000.00 reward under the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) had earlier been offered for his arrest.

The operation was jointly carried out by CIDG Bulacan Provincial Field Unit, Regional Intelligence Units, SAF elements, and supporting units from PRO3 and the Bulacan Police Provincial Office, reflecting strong inter-unit coordination under the PNP Focused Agenda, particularly its Enhanced Managing Police Operations pillar.

Records show that the arrested individual is linked to a series of violent incidents in 2023 in Surigao del Norte, including a shooting incident and an illegal discharge of firearm case. He is also facing murder charges connected to a separate 2024 case currently under investigation.

PNP Chief, Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., commended the successful operation, underscoring the importance of sustained efforts against fugitives.

“Hindi po tayo titigil hangga’t ang mga tinutugis na wanted persons ay hindi nahaharap sa batas. This accomplishment reflects the dedication of our personnel and the effectiveness of coordinated police operations,” PGen Nartatez said. “We remain firm, focused, and committed to our mandate.”

The operation is aligned with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to strengthen law enforcement operations while ensuring that peace and order initiatives are felt at the community level.

The arrested individual is now under the custody of CIDG Bulacan for documentation and proper turnover to the issuing courts.

Authorities continue to urge the public to support police operations by providing timely and reliable information on fugitives still at large.

“This is part of our continuing effort to make our communities safer. Tuloy-tuloy po ang ating operasyon para sa katarungan at kapayapaan ng ating mga kababayan,” he added.

The PNP reaffirmed its commitment to reform and operational efficiency under the guiding principle: Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman.

The accomplishment underscores the continuing implementation of the PNP Focused Agenda—a strategic framework of transformation designed to make police service more responsive and results-driven. At the heart of this agenda are key priorities that define the course of the PNP, particularly Enhanced Managing Police Operations, which drives sustained enforcement efforts against illicit activities.

“Our presence on the ground remains strong, especially in vulnerable coastal areas where illegal trade persists. We will maintain pressure through consistent operations and strict enforcement of the law,” PGEN Nartatez added. “Patuloy ang aming pagbabantay sa mga baybayin upang matiyak na hindi makakalusot ang anumang ilegal na gawain.”

He also called on participants to cooperate with authorities and remain mindful of public safety. “Makakaasa kayo na ang PNP ay narito hindi lamang para magbantay, kundi para tumulong. Panatilihin natin ang mapayapang diwa ng paggunita ng Araw ng mga Manggagawa,” he added.

The PNP continues to coordinate closely with partner agencies, local government units, and event organizers to ensure that all activities proceed smoothly and without disruption.

As the nation marks Labor Day, the PNP reaffirms its commitment to service guided by the principle of Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman.
