MASALAP
Masalap is TCQ's personal take inspired by Karak Chai, also called in other parts of India as Masala Chai.
This tea stems from the origins of spices being added to black tea in the old times, most prominent additions being cardamom and cinnamon.
True to its name, Masalap (from the Indian word Masala, meaning "strongly spiced", and Filipino word Masarap, meaning "delicious") really challenges our smell in terms of the aromatics that emerge when the tea is brewed, but never fails in terms of taste.
In fact, this tea is prepared slightly differently than the other teas TCQ offers. Masalap requires at 5-10 minutes of boiling to bring out the flavor of the spices, before pouring it over some sweetened evaporated milk. The result is a beautiful caramel colored tea, reminiscent of the familiar milk tea, with much more strength in aroma and flavor.
A 10 g pack may be boiled altogether to prepare a batch good for 4 or 5 cups, and stored later for boiling in batches later.
Lastly, true to its name, while the spices included in the tea are considered acquired tastes, it is sure to hit a sweet spot in your tongue once tasted. Hence the name Masalap!
