In the aftermath of the September 11 attacks, nearly 300 specially trained dogs deployed to Ground Zero to search for survivors, locate remains, and provide comfort to first responders. Their work brought hope in the darkest hours and closure to countless families.

24 years later, the impact of these four-legged heroes is still felt. We will never forget their service, their sacrifice, or the legacy they left behind. 💙

🐺 These are only some of the K9s whose grit and courage were captured in images from that time, but the commitment to serve from each and every one will always be remembered.

LOOK: K9 Explosives Detection Dog Kobe was brought to Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF), an animal welfare organization on Monday, August 4, after photos of him looking frail raised concern online during an operation in Tondo, Manila.

According to the AKF, Kobe's lab results were normal and that he was being adequately fed, but will first have to undergo a 2-3 month rehabilitation period before he gets redeployed.

"While we thank the RECU, EOD- K9 and the MPD for their immediate response in reaching out, we continue to call for an urgent and comprehensive review of the health and welfare of all working K9s," AKF said. | 📷: Animal Kingdom Foundation / Facebook via Liam Recacho, INQUIRER.net

How sad 😢
Earlier today, a young man was riding a motorcycle to a veterinary clinic hoping that his puppy would receive urgent care, as he was severely affected by gastroenteritis.
However, a few meters from the site, he was stopped by police officers. Despite his pleas to be allowed to continue, the officers showed an indifferent attitude and prevented him from moving forward. As a result, their pet passed away at the same site.
The scene was heartbreaking: the young man, in tears, hugged his puppy and, with a broken heart, told him: "I tried, but I failed you..." you rest now champ 😔

‼️Another case of irresponsible pet ownership has been reported to our page — a neglected dog, left to suffer in silence. We always remind everyone: If you cannot handle the responsibility of caring for a pet, please don’t get one. These animals have lives, feelings, and hearts that can be broken. 💔🐾

‼️This particular case is heartbreaking. It’s just one dog — one soul who depended on their owner for love and care — yet this is how they were treated. SARA has already issued a warning to the owner, asking them to provide proper shelter and care. Thankfully, the owner agreed to our request instead of surrendering the dog to SARA.🐾🐾

‼️But it shouldn’t take a warning for someone to do the right thing. Dogs are not objects you can toss aside when it’s inconvenient. They trust you. They love you. And they deserve a life where they feel safe, cared for, and valued.🐾🐾

‼️Please, if you choose to have a pet, make sure you are ready for the responsibility — for better or worse, through sickness and health, for their entire life. They give you their whole heart; don’t let them down.🐾🐾
