Our café has been closed for 7 days.

Seven days without sales. Seven days of watching something we worked so hard to build just sit there, unable to operate.

And honestly, what hurts the most is knowing that we were never given proper notice before the closure order was issued.

We immediately complied ON THE SAME DAY. We paid everything we were asked to pay and did everything we could to resolve the situation.

But the government’s system was so broken that they couldn’t even sign a paper on the same day it was already paid. Their processing system was a nightmare. It took 7 DAYS just to get a signature before we could finally reopen.

And when we asked about the penalties we were being charged, we couldn’t even get a clear explanation of where some of them came from.

As a small business owner, this is honestly heartbreaking.

Because behind this café are real people. Employees depending on their jobs. Bills that still need to be paid. Investments we worked so hard for. And a dream that we poured so much of our time, energy, and resources into.

This isn’t just a business sitting closed for 7 days.

It’s 7 days of lost income.
7 days of worrying about our team.
7 days of wondering when we’ll finally be allowed to operate again.

We’re exhausted. We’re frustrated. And honestly, there were moments when we felt completely defeated.

But giving up is not an option.

We built this café from the ground up. We’ve worked too hard, sacrificed too much, and believed in this dream for too long to let one painful chapter become the end of our story.

So we’ll keep fighting. We’ll keep doing what needs to be done. And we’ll keep moving forward, even when it’s frustrating, unfair, and exhausting.

To everyone who checked on us, sent messages, supported us, and reminded us to keep going—thank you. 🤎

Your support means more than you know, especially during a time like this.

We’re finally moving forward.

And we’re not stopping here.

See you all tomorrow.🤍

This is the reality many business owners in Manila are dealing with.

Every year, we’re hit with another fee, another permit, another requirement, another inspection, another expense. We’re expected to keep paying, keep complying, and keep our mouths shut because what choice do we really have? If we don’t comply, we risk delays, penalties, or even being unable to operate.

In our case, the increase has been staggering. What was around ₱20,000 in 2025 has become ₱106,000 in 2026. On top of that, our garbage collection fee jumped from around ₱1,000 to nearly ₱60,000. How is a small business expected to absorb increases like that?

As if that wasn’t enough, electricity prices continue to rise. We had to make painful decisions—cut workdays, adjust staff schedules, increase our prices, and absorb costs just to keep the business alive. These aren’t decisions we want to make. They’re decisions we’re forced to make.

Meanwhile, government fees and charges never seem to stop. Instead of making it easier for entrepreneurs to survive, it often feels like we’re being squeezed even harder.

I’ve watched amazing coffee shops close their doors—not because they lacked customers or passion, but because the numbers simply stopped making sense. Rent, utilities, wages, taxes, permits, inspections, and countless other operating expenses keep increasing while profit margins continue to shrink.
