Powerful PARENTING LESSON today 💕

We spend an average of 14 years in school learning how to earn a living.

But when we get married, we attend only a few hours of seminar.

There is no required school for becoming a parent.
No degree in understanding a child’s development.
No intensive training in child psychology.

And then—we are given one of the greatest responsibilities of our lives: raising a human being.

Yet somewhere along the way, we allow our children to be parented by friends, school, the community, the internet, social media, and online games.

When tragedy happens, we point fingers.

Social media. Online games. Weak laws. School security. Society.

But parents, perhaps one of the most difficult questions we must have the courage to ask is:

WHERE WERE WE?

Did we know who their friends were?
Did we ask why they were always alone in their room?
Did we guide what they watched and consumed online?
Did we help them discover sports, music, art, service, and other meaningful pursuits?
Did we connect more, listen more, care more, and pay attention more?

Remember when they were babies?

Before they could run, they took little steps. And we held their hands.

Today, they are taking baby steps again—this time in real life.

Peer pressure.
Rejection.
The desperate need to belong.
Confusion about their future.
Questions about identity, meaning, and purpose.

They may look grown, but they still need our hands.

Parents, the painful events happening around us are calling us to pause and discern.

Our children do not only need providers.

They need PRESENT parents.

Be there.
Listen.
Notice.
Guide.
Connect.

Parents, we chase promotions, titles, businesses, properties, and achievements. We work hard to give our children the best education and the best future.

But let us remember: GOOD GRADES ARE NEVER ENOUGH.

A high IQ may help our children succeed academically, but life will demand much more than intelligence.

They need EMOTIONAL QUOTIENT—the ability to understand emotions, handle failure, build relationships, show empathy, and choose compassion.

And most importantly, they need SPIRITUAL QUOTIENT—faith, values, purpose, conscience, and an anchor greater than themselves.

Let us not leave our children only diplomas, businesses, houses, or titles of land. Ipamana rin natin ang ating PANANAMPALATAYA.

And please, let us never allow the internet and social media to raise our children for us. Their hearts, character, and faith are first nurtured at HOME.

Our deepest prayers are with the students who lost their lives and with the entire Ateneo de Zamboanga University community. May God bring comfort and strength to every grieving family. 🙏

Raise not only intelligent children. Raise emotionally strong, spiritually grounded, deeply compassionate HUMAN BEINGS.
