THE MAN BEHIND SHALA HALO-HALO OVERLOAD

Meet Jovito M. Susaya Jr.—fondly known as “Jayken” to his friends, and “Junjie” to his closest family. He was a warm-hearted soul, admired by many for his approachable nature. Jayken never hesitated to connect with people; he could strike up a conversation with just about anyone.

A true risk-taker, he didn’t want to depend solely on his salary when he started a family. Together with his wife, they embarked on a business journey—first with milk tea, and more recently, in 2023, they launched a halo-halo venture they proudly named Shala, a word that means “classy” in our dialect.

Above all, Jayken was a devoted brother, a loving husband, and a caring father to three young children.

Tragically, on April 10, 2025, Jayken was involved in a fatal accident while working in Bohol. He was struck by a speeding armored vehicle, a heartbreaking incident that has left the family devastated.

As the family mourns the loss of their pillar, we kindly ask for your patience and understanding, especially regarding delayed responses, as we continue to navigate this painful transition and find ways to manage the business without him.

Jayken often delivered halo-halo himself during his free time, taking pride in personally connecting with customers. Moving forward, all delivery transactions will now be handled by Zion Express Delivery. You can reach them through their official page.

Your continued support means the world to us and especially to the three children Jayken leaves behind.

If you’re near the Tanauan area, feel free to drop by the Shala Halo-Halo stall located in front of Tanauan I Central School. We also take orders for delivery to Tanauan, Tacloban, Palo, and Tolosa via Zion Express Delivery. For any questions, you can reach out through Zion Express’ official page.

We kindly ask for your patience during this time and assure you that we will restock your favorite ingredients as soon as we can.

In the meantime, our store remains open from Monday to Sunday, 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, to satisfy your halo-halo cravings. Thank you for your understanding!
