๐ขโ Lifeboat Safety Matters!
Do you know the difference between ON Load and OFF Load release mechanisms of a lifeboat? Understanding these systems is very important for every seafarer because they directly affect lifesaving operations during emergencies.
๐ธ ON Load Release Mechanism
This system allows the lifeboat hooks to be released even when the boat is still under load or suspended by the falls. It is mainly used during emergency situations when the lifeboat must be released quickly from the ship after water entry. Extreme care is required while operating this system because accidental release can cause serious accidents.
๐ธ OFF Load Release Mechanism
This system can release the hooks only when the lifeboat is fully waterborne and there is no load on the falls. It is considered safer during normal launching and recovery operations because the hooks cannot open while the boat is hanging.
โ ๏ธ Key Difference:
โข ON Load โ Can release under tension/load.
โข OFF Load โ Releases only when load is removed.
Proper training, maintenance, and understanding of these mechanisms can save lives at sea. ๐ , , , ,
