The Story Behind Churrolita...
People have been asking me, "Why Churrolita?"
The truth is, Churrolita didn't happen overnight.
It started during the pandemic when I launched The Sweet Side of Sue. Like many small businesses, I experienced slow sales. I tried everything—from messaging friends and family to boosting posts on Facebook. While I had loyal customers, I knew I could do better.
I kept asking myself,
"What am I doing differently from other home bakers who seem to be thriving?"
Then I realized something.
I was offering too many products.
Instead of becoming known for one thing, I was trying to sell everything.
So I asked myself, "If I had to build a brand around just one dessert, what would it be?"
I listed my favorites: Cinnamon Rolls, Carrot Cake, Taho & Churros.
Believe it or not, I almost chose Taho because I thought it would be unique for weddings and events in Antipolo. But after listening to feedback and thinking carefully about the customer experience, I changed my mind.
I chose Churros.
Not only because they're one of my favorite desserts, but because I saw an opportunity to bring something fresh and interactive to weddings, corporate events, bazaars, and celebrations.
The name Churrolita was actually suggested by my sister. She said it had more personality and would be memorable—and she was right. From there, I focused on developing the recipe, refining the setup, and making sure every serving could be prepared fresh on-site. No complicated baking. Just freshly fried churros, coated to perfection and served warm.
Joining the GFTs gave me the confidence that there was a market for this idea. Progress may have been slower because of my full-time job, but every event strengthened my belief that Churrolita had a place in people's celebrations.
Today, Churrolita is more than just a dessert business. It's a dream built one step at a time.
