Today marks the 5th death anniversary of ๐๐ฌ๐ฌ๐จ๐๐ข๐๐ญ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐๐ ๐๐จ๐ฌ๐ โ๐๐๐ฉ๐โ ๐๐จ๐ซ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ฅ ๐๐๐ซ๐๐ณ ๐ฮฆ๐ ๐๐๐๐. He lived an exemplary life as an Alphan who excelled in the judiciary, public service, and the legal academe.
Justice Perez demonstrated early academic distinction as the valedictorian of Batangas High School Class of 1963. In 1967, he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of the Philippines (UP) and subsequently graduated among the Top 10 of his class from the UP College of Law in 1971. His scholastic excellence earned him induction into the Order of the Purple Feather, the UP College of Lawโs premier honor society.
He began his 45-year tenure in the High Tribunal in 1971 as a technical assistant. Over the succeeding decades, he steadily rose through the judicial ranks, serving as a legal assistant, judicial assistant, and confidential attorney. His executive and administrative capacities further expanded upon his appointment as Deputy Clerk of Court, Assistant Court Administrator, Deputy Court Administrator, and eventually Court Administrator. Beyond his administrative duties, he concurrently represented the country as a delegate to the Universal Periodic Review before the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland.
On December 26, 2009, Brod Justice Pepe reached the pinnacle of his judicial career upon his appointment as the 167th Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines. During his tenure on the bench, he penned landmark decisions, including the 2016 case of Poe-Llamanzares v. Commission on Elections (COMELEC), the mandated relocation of the Pandacan oil depots, and the ruling affirming the authority of the Anti-Money Laundering Council to inspect bank deposits. Following his compulsory retirement from the judiciary in 2016, he continued to serve the legal community as Dean of the Manuel L. Quezon University (MLQU) School of Law alongside fellow fraternity alumnus, former Chief Justice Reynato S. Puno Aฮฆฮ 1959.

His legacy shall continue to inspire generations of Alphans as we strive for excellence and the liberty of our nation.
