FIRST DAY CHECK, FRESHIES 🗺️

How was your first day of classes, UP Diliman freshies? Got lost somewhere along the way? 😅

With UP Diliman’s sprawling campus, finding buildings, food spots, libraries, parking areas, and jeepney routes can be confusing—especially when you’re still figuring out where everything is.

That’s where DiliMAP comes in.

Developed by the UP Diliman National Institute of Geological Sciences’ CWTS CS MRUV-1 Group 1, DiliMAP is a web-based interactive campus guide that brings together useful locations across UP Diliman in one place.

Students, freshies, transferees, and campus visitors can use the map to look for food and service establishments, parking spaces, libraries, jeepney routes, and other campus destinations without having to wander around completely clueless.

The project was created with support from several UP Diliman student councils, including the University Freshie Council and councils representing freshies, shiftees, and transferees from different colleges.

Since DiliMAP continues to be updated, users may also send corrections, concerns, and suggestions to help improve the map.

So if your first few days at UPD include asking “Saan ’to?” more times than you expected, DiliMAP might just become one of your most useful campus bookmarks. 🌻🗺️

🎓 FROM HUMBLE BEGINNINGS TO SUMMA CUM LAUDE

Cherry Joy F. Tumampo proved that financial hardship does not have to place a limit on academic dreams.

The eldest of three siblings, Tumampo grew up in a family supported by her father, who worked as a janitor, and her mother, a housewife. Despite their limited financial means, she pursued higher education at the University of the Philippines Diliman, where she took BS Molecular Biology and Biotechnology.

With assistance from the University of the Philippines Alumni Association Singapore (UPAAS) Scholarship Programme, Tumampo was able to continue her studies and ultimately graduate summa cm laude in April 2012. The scholarship supports financially challenged Filipino students studying at UP, helping cover educational and living expenses.

Tumampo expressed how the opportunity helped shape her university journey:

“The scholarship gave me the chance to explore my potentials and capabilities as I make my way in the university.”

She added that without the assistance, she would not have had the same opportunity to learn from UP professors and interact with fellow students.

Her journey did not end with her undergraduate achievement. In its 2021 feature, the UP Alumni website shared that Tumampo later pursued further studies at UP Manila as a DOST scholar under the MD-PhD Program in Molecular Medicine, showing how access to education can open doors far beyond graduation.

From the daughter of a janitor to one of UP Diliman’s highest academic achievers, Cherry’s story remains a powerful example of what opportunity, perseverance, and educational support can make possible. 🌻
