For the 2nd year in a row we have the privilege to do some kai for the Greenview Retirement Village for Matariki. Last year I got a last minute message if we could help as their previous vendor had canceled on them, so I couldn't say no. Dorita who contacted me asked for a little bit of info as to who I am and how Kares Kai came about etc and this year our kaumatua will get to know a little of where their kai comes from and who's made it. Teary eyed I was grateful. Its a privilege to bring people together through kai, there will always be a space at my table for you, our Kare Kai whānau 💫

Kia ora whānau!! Matariki Kai is in full swing, arohamai my absence 🤲 we did 1000 Hāngī for AUT yesterday along with 400 steam pudding with custard and Seafood chowder.. tonight prep is going down for more apopo!! BUT so is the Origin decider 🫡😅 Who you got whānau, you know I'm all day. And before the kamakaze police come for me with the thats an ozzy thing some of our kiwi boys are playing so ssshhhuuuussshhh 😂 On that note 📝 stay humble and comment who ypu thibk will win. Extra fried bread your next order if you are a Queensland supporter 👌😂 All the best to my son who will be touching down in Brisbane soon to start his new journey Maia Pene Love you son!! Give em heaps haha (and buy mum some Broncos gears oh 😆)

Kia ora whānau. Since 2013 when I first sold a Rewana loaf and a box of fried bread I didnt think it would lead to where we are today. In that time ive faced many challenges good and bad. Been through a lot of heart ache as well as had my heart filled with aroha. Ive met so many people and been a part of so many special occasions I can remember each one as if it was yesterday. Most of all ive been in places that never knew my name and im yet to go to places who already do. So I thank each and everyone of you for your engagement, special occasions, loses and new beginnings. Theres a few Aunty Kare babies out there plus tamafreakies who still call me the fried bread lady. As a thankyou I will be doing a GIVEAWAY soon, as to what that looks like im not sure 😅 20k hangi seems a stretch but im sure ive fed that many over this time haha so watch this space, I'll make a post soon.

Just a friendly reminder whānau... Food is universal, it picks you up, it takes on a whole new meaning when shared with loved ones and most of all food is an expression. An expression of who you are, where you come from and where it may lead you. Acts of service is my love language and food provides and allows me to do this regularly. Whether sharing with my own whānau or from my table to yours. Recipes are a major factor, we all have them, we've been shown and taught them and some of us put it out to the universe and share them so others may learn or love. If you have a recipe which is similar to those you see online or different, it doesn't mean one is better than the other or its a competition, it just shows you how food can take on so many shapes and flavors, just like people!! So be mindful when your waha opens, think to yourself is what im saying necessary or helpful, or am I just being an ass and I want to be better than that person and put theres down 🤷‍♀️ it takes too much energy to be an ass but costs nothing to be kind 😇

Happy New Month Whānau!! Aunty Kares been injured the last couple of weeks, too much cutting pumpkin 🎃 🤦‍♀️🤣 but we on the mend. Been busy with catering and taking it easy, but stay tuned for some kai this month. As the weather is seems to be getting colder we will introduce some soul warming kai to keep you going. Until then I hope everyone's happy and healthy.
