The chef's having his Monday off, but the doors are wide open.

The kitchen's taking it easy today, though there's still plenty to keep you going. Light meals and snacks are on, pasties included, so you won't go hungry. Just a good pint, a warm room, and something tasty in hand.

Two little things we're quietly proud of.

First, our mini Yorkshire puddings, filled with slow-shredded beef, rich gravy, and a horseradish crème that cuts right through. Small, but they don't hold back.

And our pasties, made the proper way, the kind that actually fill you up and follow you home in your thoughts the next day.

We won't tell you they're the best in Papanui. We'll just let you decide.

The Ranfurly Shield is coming to Papanui.

Canterbury wrestled the Log o' Wood back off Otago over the weekend, and tomorrow night, 12th August, it's coming through our doors. The shield will be at The Herald from 6pm for one hour only, here for our patrons to see up close and get a photo with.

An hour with the Ranfurly Shield in your local. Doesn't get much more Canterbury than that.

Get down early, bring the family, and grab your photo with a piece of rugby history. Huge thanks to Canterbury Rugby for bringing it our way.
