I was feeling the rain, so I spontaneously ground ink and let a very thin brush move on a paper. It was so slow and quick, I don’t even remember how I wrote this.
Wonder if this character feels “rain” to you as well.
During my ritual, I ask you to write Japanese characters (with origin in Chinese characters). Being unfamiliar to these letters, there’s less sense of what’s right or wrong.
Slightly out of control, you let your breath, the weight of brush, and your feelings guide your stroke.
Very much looking forward to sharing the moment with you on ritual in Amsterdam, 6th June.

ASA Ritual: Amsterdam Edition 🌿
Every ASA Ritual is a shared journey. I am so happy to finally host a session in my second home, Amsterdam, with the kind support of my dear friend, Savi.

In this intimate home-style setting, we will come together for a meditative afternoon of Shodo (Japanese calligraphy), Japanese philosophy, and a shared tasting of my signature plant-based sushi.
To close the session, Savi will offer a tasting of wild-grown teas from a recent harvest in Sri Lanka.

I’d like to invite you to a quiet evening around ASA vegan sushi.
Since moving to Delft, the rhythm has started to feel different — and that has been shaping the way I engage with sushi.

Collaboration with droog Amsterdam is back - please come join us for a reflective, yet cozy afternoon of film and sushi.

This time, we will gather back in the Red Room — the same space where I hosted the asa – Eat Art Experience in January 2024. Since then, Droog has transformed this room into a remarkable theatre environment designed to hold film and attention in a very particular way. When Alya, droog’s film curator, introduced me to “Souls of Zen”, I immediately felt a strong wish to share this film alongside my sushi practice.

The documentary opens with the 3.11 earthquake in Japan. Whenever I speak about Japanese aesthetics or philosophy, I begin from this reality: a constant awareness of nature, shaped by frequent and powerful natural forces. What also resonates deeply in this film is that Zen is not presented as religion, but as lived practice, which is embodied in daily actions and presence.

I hope my sushi will make the film experience even more personal and grounded one, that shall guide you for new discoveries.
