There is this man in my area that produces very fresh palmoil.

He can even produce four days after harvest.

And his oil is always very neat.

You hardly see dirt inside the oil.

But he has a very big problem.

He doesn't know how to sell.

Once he comes to market, the trader will hijack his oil.

They already know him so he is an easy target.

Most times they can deduct three thousand naira from his money before even paying.

They will identify fault here and there and wear him out before paying.

Some days sef, they will pay him half of the money, use his money to trade before paying up.

The intimidation abi bullying became much that he stopped coming to market directly.

He now gives his goods to people to sell for him.

I still cannot understand him till today.

The stress of producing palmoil is enough to get me angry.

Infact, a Miller might never sell to you again because he heard you like underpricing.

He is not owing any of them oh.

He does not produce with their money oh.

Yet, he stutters each time he is asked about his price.

I know you are angry with him already, but wait a minute.

Are you sure you are not like him?

I am talking to you.

You become jumpy each time a customer asks for price.

You that is scared of updating prices because you feel you are too expensive.

You that is always trying to justify your price every single time.

Why do you think you are different from this man?

Why can't you price your worth?

The customer you reduced money for will not last. I mean it.

The more you over explain is the more you lose value.

Who told you people don't know quality when they see one?

I MADE PROFIT OF 10K PER GALLON ONE TIME .

Please read till the end oh.

Around 2024, I was selling palmoil offline and am still selling offline and online.

I was also into storage for some of my customers.

They buy oil from me, then I store it for them and sell during raining season.

That year we stored a gallon around twenty six to twenty eight thousand naira.

We started selling off around August when oil was thirty five thousand per gallon.

The price stayed around that price till October ending.

Somehow, this customer delayed. He just didn't want to sell off till October ending.

We all know that most offline market is every four days.

We packaged the oil and took it to market which was on the first day of November.

On reaching, oil was sold in the morning for thirty nine thousand naira.

Now because the oil was in very good condition, you will never know its storage sef, we kept it at forty one thousand.

The market women paid very fast and I became suspicious.

I decided to wait small before bringing the remaining gallons from home.

Lo and behold, that turned out to be the best decision that day.

Many traders started looking for oil, and oil was scarce.

The people with oil increased the price to forty nine thousand and many shop owners bought.

They needed oil to serve their customers.

And that was the price we sold the remaining gallons.

From 39000 to 49000 naira in one day.

That's how price of oil can go up offline.

It can also reduce drastically.

Now you are nodding and planning your next move right?

Listen oh!

You might not be so lucky if you take such risk.

Remember what happened last year.

My advice to everyone that stored oil is this:

Start selling once the profit is reasonable.

If possible sell in batches.

You can also be like my customer and follow your own leading.

Stop panicking, we are still in July.

Let me quickly buy before the price changes.

But wait…

You are not buying one small bottle of oil for your kitchen.

You are investing your money into a product that will travel from another state to your location.

You are paying for:
1. The palm oil
2. Transportation
3. Loading
4. Logistics
5. Your time and trust

So imagine the disappointment of waiting, spending all that money, then receiving oil that does not meet your expectation. 😔

And the painful part?

Your own customers will not blame the person you bought from… they will blame YOU.

That is why as a bulk buyer, price should not be the only thing you consider.

Is it not too early to start complaining about your Palm oil investment (storage)?.

We are still in June and panics has been flying here and there that Palm oil won't favour investors this year.🤔

I checked and saw that many pushing this narratives just started palm oil business.

If you have been doing palm oil business for decades, you will understand that Palm oil always favours investors yearly except you are gréédy.

As you did Palm oil storage this year...from August,watch the market closely and sell off once it favours you.

If you keep waiting for it to hit 100k, that's when you might miss out and you will be blaming government for imports.

Palm oil storage business favours wise people and not gréédy ones.

Is it really possible for me to decide how much you should sell your own palm oil?

No. Because palm oil price is not the same everywhere. Your location, your customers, your buying price, and your expenses all matter.

So instead of asking "How much can I sell my palm oil?" learn how to calculate your own selling price.

For example:

You bought one 25 litres gallon of palm oil for ₦38,000

Add your expenses:

• Transportation from your vendor’s location to your location — ₦2,000
• Loading/offloading or store expenses (if any)
• Transportation from storage to your shop/house
• Packaging cost (if you bought empty gallons, maybe ₦5,000 depending on your source and type)

Now calculate your total cost.

After knowing your real cost price, then check your local market:

How much are people buying good quality palm oil in your area?
What quality do customers prefer? (colour, taste, thickness, cleanliness)
What price will allow you to make profit and still attract buyers?

Remember, the cheapest seller is not always the one with the most customers. Many people are willing to pay for clean, quality, trusted palm oil.

Also, don’t forget to calculate hidden costs like leakage, spoilage, delayed sales, and money tied down in stock.

A smart palm oil seller does not just buy and sell — they know their numbers.

Profit is not only about how much you sell; it is about knowing exactly how much the business has cost you.

One question I keep seeing from some people who visit my DM or WhatsApp is:

"How much are you buying from the mill?"
"How much is your source selling to you?"
"How much did you buy it?"

Now, let me make something clear… I am not against people wanting to understand how palm oil business works. In fact, I encourage people to learn before entering any business.

But there is a difference between learning the business and trying to calculate someone else's profit from their source price.

When you walk into a big company or buy from established brands, do you first ask them:
"How much did you buy this product from your supplier?"

Most times, you don't.

You focus on:
The quality of the product
The value you are getting
Their reliability
Their service
Whether they can deliver what they promise

Business is not only about the amount someone bought from the source. There are many things involved:

- Transportation
- Sourcing stress
- Storage
- Losses
- Quality control
- Capital tied down
- Market risks
- Time and experience

Two people can buy the same product at the same source price and still not sell at the same price because their business structure is different.

For those who want to start palm oil business, here is a better way to ask questions when visiting a vendor's page:

Instead of asking:
"How much are you buying from the mill?"

Ask:
"How do I identify quality palm oil?"
"How can I start this business with my capital?"
"What mistakes should I avoid?"
"How do I find reliable suppliers?"
"What market should I target?"

Those questions will help you build your own business.

Remember, every successful business owner has something they invested in — experience, knowledge, connections, and time.

Learn from people, but also respect that they are running a business.

The goal is not to copy someone's price… the goal is to understand the business well enough to build yours.
