*HMI-4-GGLD Leadership Under Its Founder, Lawan Sadiq Abubakar Holds Strategic Meeting with Honourable Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, Fnim, in Yola*

Released: Engr. Umar Maidabino, National Director, New Media

The Founder and National Coordinator of Honourable Mukhtar Idi Maiha for Good Governance and Livestock Development (HMI-4-GGLD), Hon. Lawan Sadiq Abubakar (Sarkin Yakin Matasan Jimeta), led top Executive Council members of the organization, including the National Director of Membership and Engagement, as well as Gombe and Adamawa State Coordinators, in a high-level and productive engagement with the Honourable Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, Fnim, in Yola, Adamawa State.

The meeting brought together key leaders of HMI-4-GGLD, including the Gombe State Coordinator, Honourable Nafiu Bello Scorpion (Commander Mai Zafi, Sarkin Gwagwarmaya Matasan Arewa, Magayakin Yariman Gombe, and Barden Madakin Arewa Na Farko); Adamawa State Coordinator, Professor Emmanuel Torsen; National Director of Membership and Engagement, Alhaji Usman Habu Jafar, and all Adamawa State Executive Council members including the Director of Entertainment, as well as senior officials and representatives from other states.

Discussions focused on critical initiatives to strengthen Nigeria’s livestock sector. The HMI-4-GGLD leadership examined the proposed baseline survey using Adamawa State as a case study, aimed at identifying areas where vaccination for animals such as cattle, sheep, chickens, and other domestic livestock is limited or absent. The meeting also explored strategies to generate employment for graduates and empower youth through skills acquisition programmes, while addressing ways to enhance institutional cooperation, promote sustainable livestock practices, and implement reforms that improve productivity, peace, and economic growth.

In response, the Honourable Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, Fnim, provided thoughtful guidance and practical advice. He emphasized the need for inclusive collaboration between the Federal Government, state governments, traditional institutions, and local communities, noting that sustainable livestock development requires consultative and participatory approaches. Honourable Minister Idi Mukhtar Maiha further praised advocacy and stakeholder platforms such as HMI-4-GGLD, describing them as essential partners in translating government policies into grassroots understanding and acceptance. With optimism and determination, he assured the HMI-4-GGLD stakeholders that the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, together with sister agencies under his stewardship, would ensure implementation of these initiatives for the progress and development of Nigeria at large.

The Minister equally encouraged the adoption of modern livestock management practices, including organized ranching systems, improved animal health services, enhanced breeding techniques, and feed development. He also stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence and conflict prevention, highlighting dialogue, mutual respect, and ongoing community engagement as essential tools for resolving farmer-herder challenges and maintaining social stability.

Commenting on the historic meeting, the Gombe State Coordinator, Honourable Nafiu Bello Scorpion, described the engagement as timely and impactful, noting the Minister’s deep understanding of grassroots realities and his unwavering commitment to inclusive, consultative, and sustainable livestock development, with clear promise to execute the given targets with deep commitments and patriotism.

Also speaking, the Adamawa State Coordinator of HMI-4-GGLD, Professor Emmanuel Torsen, described the meeting as highly strategic and timely for Adamawa State and Nigeria as a whole. He noted that the proposed baseline survey and youth-focused livestock initiatives align directly with the realities in vulnerable and underserved communities. He added that the Honourable Minister Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha's clarity of purpose and inclusive approach have strengthened stakeholder confidence, positioning Adamawa State as a willing and ready pilot hub for impactful livestock development interventions that will drive economic growth, peace, and sustainability.

In his closing remarks, the Founder and National Coordinator of HMI-4-GGLD, Hon. Lawan Sadiq Abubakar, commended the Honourable Minister for his visionary leadership and openness to stakeholder engagement. He pledged that HMI-4-GGLD would carry out the baseline survey and all other initiatives highlighted by the Honourable Minister to the very best of the organization’s abilities, emphasizing that the organization is composed of individuals of integrity, professionalism, administrative acumen, political sagacity, and exceptional skills and experience. He reaffirmed HMI-4-GGLD’s full support for the policies and programmes of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, committing to continued advocacy, grassroots mobilization, and policy implementation in line with the principles of good governance and sustainable livestock development.

The High-profile meeting concluded with a renewed sense of purpose, as all participants expressed commitment to collaborative efforts that will secure a brighter and more productive future for Nigeria’s livestock sector.
