*From Humble Beginnings to Culinary Success: The Beckley's Kitchen Story*
As a seasoned entrepreneur and passionate food enthusiast, I've always had a knack for catering to guests. My love for hospitality earned me the nickname "Fish Rissoto", from my mom and it's a title I wear with pride.
*A Chance Encounter*
My journey into the food business began in 2001 when an uncle's friend asked me to handle catering for his Bachelor's Eve celebration. With 100 guests to feed, I rose to the challenge, serving up delicious fried rice with chicken and beef. This inaugural event sparked a fire within me, and I knew I wanted to pursue a career in the culinary industry.
*Taking the Leap*
Fast-forward to 2009, when I was working as a broadcast journalist for a state-owned station. Seeking to supplement my income, I turned to my passion for food. Renting a shop in a prime area, I hired a sales assistant and began catering to construction workers opposite my shop. Sundays became my day off, mirroring the workers' schedule.
*Expansion and Growth*
The following year, I secured an eatery lease not far from the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) North gate and transformed it into a thriving restaurant and bar. My entrepreneurial spirit didn't stop there. I seized an opportunity to open Food Purvey at Akure Airport, further expanding my reach.
*A New Chapter*
By 2011, I had transitioned from broadcast journalism to print media, becoming a state correspondent. So, when in 2012 I was transferred to the judiciary beat in Lagos, I relocated my food business to my inherited property and launched Beckley's Kitchen.
*Lessons Learned*
Throughout my journey, I've discovered valuable lessons:
1. My strength so far, lies in innovative recipes and menu development with passion for customers' satisfaction and feedback, as I intensify efforts at building a loyal customer community.
2. From starting inside a rented shop, I now operate on a plot of land.
