One of the sessions I can never forget from the UPG Biashara 2026 Program was "Advanced Topics in Marketing" facilitated by Coach Alex Balogun.

Before this class, I had often heard about the importance of partnerships in business, but this session provided a much clearer and practical understanding of how strategic partnerships can drive growth, visibility, and sustainability.

A key lesson was the four types of partnerships every entrepreneur should understand and leverage:

✅ Visibility Partnerships – to increase brand awareness and reach new audiences.
✅ Credibility Partnerships – to build trust and strengthen reputation through association with respected brands or individuals.
✅ Technical Partnerships – to access expertise, knowledge, and skills that enhance business operations.
✅ Financial Partnerships – to secure funding, investments, and financial support for growth.

The session also highlighted the different categories of partners:
◇Individuals
◇SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises)
◇Organizations

One statement that stood out to me was the importance of engaging with partners consistently and strategically, even through daily events and interactions. Partnerships are not just about asking for support; they are about creating mutual value and building long-term relationships.

As I continue building YeaFarm, these insights will help shape how we collaborate with farmers, agribusinesses, development organizations, and investors to create a stronger and more sustainable food system.

For close to a month now, it has been difficult to find pepper and tomatoes to buy around where our farm is located. I keep wondering whether these commodities are no longer available in nearby markets like Okolo and Ido Market for sellers to purchase from.

The reality is that pepper and tomatoes are currently selling at very high prices, and honestly, I am happy for every farmer who has them available for sale at this time.

However, growing pepper and tomatoes that can survive, produce well, and be harvested during this period is not easy at all. It requires serious investment in time, money, and technical knowledge.

To those who are motivated to venture into vegetable farming because of the current market prices, my advice is simple: make your calculations very well, otherwise you may end up farming at a loss.

Vegetable farming is capital intensive. You cannot go into it without proper irrigation in place. Inputs such as fertilizers, pesticides, insecticides, fungicides, and nematicides must be adequately provided and properly managed with the right knowledge.

Vegetable farming is never a cheap venture. Grow only what you can effectively manage and maintain.

Farming is business _ not guesswork.

Pepper and tomato may look profitable, but they require:
✔ Constant monitoring
✔ Strong pest & disease control
✔ Proper nutrient management
✔ Technical know-how

Unlike cassava or maize, you can’t just plant and leave them.

From nursery stage to fruiting, the pressure is high _ fungi, insects, nutrient issues… and any delay can reduce your yield drastically.

Our advice?

Start small. Learn the crop. Budget well. Manage actively. Then scale.

Many farmers overlook proper measurement when applying agro-chemicals. Some believe that “the higher the quantity, the better the result.” This is wrong.

❌ Overdose can burn leaves and roots, cause wilting, reduce yield, or even kill the crop.
❌ Underdose can lead to poor pest control, weak growth, and low harvest.

If you’re buying liquid chemicals, use the measuring cap provided. For powdered products, use a kitchen scale for accuracy.

📖 Always read and follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Correct measurement protects your crops, your soil, and your profit.

Today, we observed firsthand how cassava is processed into garri. While this is not our first exposure to the process, each experience deepens our understanding and sharpens our approach. Every detail matters when the goal is to deliver quality, efficiency, and consistency.

These moments of observation help us rethink, refine, and design better ways to process garri that meet high standards and serve our community better. Growth comes from intentional learning and a willingness to improve.

By God’s grace, before the end of this year, YeaFarm will officially step into cassava processing. This is more than a plan_it is a vision steadily becoming reality.

At YeaFarm, we understand that profitable farming is no longer about planting more_it’s about managing costs wisely.
This year, many farmers are facing a tough reality: produce prices are dropping, while farm inputs such as tools, fertilizers, sprayers, and agro-chemicals are either increasing or staying high. Without proper cost control, profit margins quickly disappear.

One timeless lesson we’ve learned from experienced farmers is the importance of self-sufficiency. Many old farmers reduce expenses by processing part of their harvest to feed themselves and their workers_turning maize into pap, cassava into garri or elubo. This simple practice significantly reduces daily feeding costs and protects farm income.

Another advantage is planting materials. Saving seeds and cassava stems from previous harvests helps farmers avoid unnecessary spending each season.
New farmers must intentionally position themselves to benefit from this practice or risk losing profits to repeated input purchases.

Farming is a business, and at YeaFarm, we believe sustainability comes from smart decisions, not just capital. Our focus is to have value addition, cost efficiency, and long-term food security.

‎As the rain fell yesterday, I remembered two different predictions I heard about farming this year.
‎
‎The first person said rain will come early, and truly, we are already seeing the signs. For farmers_especially cassava farmers this means one thing: preparation is key. Land preparation should not wait. Once the rain becomes stable, planting should begin immediately to take advantage of the season.
‎
‎The second person said this year will be a year of bountiful harvest, a time when food will be surplus. While that sounds like good news, a serious question came to my mind:
‎
‎How will farmers really make it this year?
‎Many farmers are still struggling to recover from last year’s losses_high input costs, poor yields, falling price of agro-commodities, and unstable markets.
‎
‎ A surplus without proper planning can also mean low prices and reduced profit.
‎This is why this farming season calls for wisdom, strategy, and proper planning.
‎
‎
‎Plan what to plant.
‎Plan when to plant.
‎Plan how to sell.
‎
‎Farming success this year will not come by chance_it will come by deliberate decisions.
‎
‎As we prepare to farm this year, let’s farm with knowledge, not assumptions.
