The Day I Became House Husband

Thursday morning.

My wife woke up at 6am with holy spirit energy and suddenly remembered that we have not washed clothes in 2 weeks.

She pointed at the mountain of clothes, the bucket, and then pointed at ME.
Babe, today you will wash. I need to rest my body.

Me? The man of the house? Washing?

I sat down on the block, wore my white singlet like I was going to a meeting, and started negotiating with God.
"God, is this the same hands you used to sign contracts with?

5 minutes later she came back. Saw the soap still in the nylon. Saw me washing one shirt for 10 minutes like I was doing laundry tutorial.

That was when the drama started.

YOU! STAND UP she shouted, finger pointing to the sky like she was preaching.
Na so you go wash? This is not TikTok! Use your strength! Wetin be this?

I looked up at her with innocent eyes, hand on my chin like a philosopher.
Babe, calm down. I’m doing research on fabric care.

The neighbor’s daughter standing behind her just covered her mouth to laugh.

My wife didn’t laugh. She picked the bucket, poured water, and said the 4 words that broke me:
Move. Let me teach you.

That day I learned 2 things:
1. Life is like weather it can change anytime. This morning I was Oga this afternoon I’m House Husband
2. Don’t listen to the sound alone. When a Nigerian woman raises her finger, run.
