Dear friends and supporters,

During the MCO, most of the homeless individuals and families have been placed at DBKL's temporary shelter facilities. However, there were some of them who were left behind. Those left behind have either no or little access to food and drinking water.

We at Mustard Seed Soup Kitchen would like extend our assistance to our hungry street friends throughout this challenging time. We will be distributing 50 sets of hot meals and bottled water within the KL city centre every night until the MCO has been lifted.

We would therefore appreciate if you could support our distributions by either:
1) Preparing 50 packs of hot meals for any night you pick, OR
2) Pledging 50 packs of hot meals via food vendors/ stalls/ restaurants.

You could either arrange for us to collect the contributed food from you (within PJ and Kota Damansara) or, you could deliver it to us at Kota Damansara. For the comfort of all our street friends, we appreciate if the meals sponsored are preferably Halal or pork-free.

If you would like to help us out on any given date, kindly contact Sha Kok Tein at 016-3132838

We thank you in advance for your generosity and partnership in this meaningful cause for our community. We are all in this together!

Another 50,000 people could lose their jobs this year!

A saddening news to welcome the year 2018, indeed. However, such a trend is nothing new. For the past 3 years, annually, more than 30 thousand people have suffered job losses. This year is about to be one of the worst.

What happens when a sole breadwinner or even both the parents of a family lose jobs?

Food becomes scarce. Families lose their homes due to inability to pay rentals and bank forfeitures. And then slowly, the families' children lag in or even drop out of school. Health conditions worsen too, due to poor healthcare.

Supportive charities and kind do-gooders, including Mustard Seed HOPE Bank volunteers, know these troubling effects far too well. This year, HOPE Bank aims to do more and serve more. More families will be affected by the great economic breakdown.

What can you do to help? Get involved! Run grocery collection drives for us! Join our monthly grocery distributions! Help us keep a lookout for a family or two in need around you!

PETALING JAYA: The job outlook for the country looks bleak, with over 50,000 Malaysians expected to lose their jobs this year. Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) executive director Datuk Shamsudin Baradan said the main sector to be affected will be manufacturing.

Dear volunteers, FB page followers and friends,

When Mustard Seed Soup Kitchen began its first food distribution in January 2016, our volunteers fed 80 street friends weekly on our Brickfields Sunday dinner route. Our soup kitchen has since grown to now feed 200 street friends weekly on our Pasar Karat Petaling Street Saturday breakfast and Brickfields Sunday dinner routes. Through our Mustard Seed HOPE Bank visits, we now deliver monthly groceries to 22 under-privileged families and charity homes.

Due to the growth in our operations and the need for working space, Mustard Seed will soon move to its new home in Kampung Baru Damansara, Section 17A, Petaling Jaya. The house (in picture) will house Mustard Seed's office, HOPE Bank's store, a kitchen and an open activity room for community and social impact activities by NGOs and social enterprises. We will also have good garden space for urban farming!

In view of this, we would like to seek for sponsorship / donation of the following items. We do not mind receiving pre-loved items too, so long that they are in good, decent condition:

Meet Uncle Lim, an active septuagenarian who has written an inventory management software for Mustard Seed on pro bono basis!

This software will be useful in helping our HOPE Bank and distribution teams to manage food contributions and inventory well, while mantaining quality records of our donors and recipient families.

We thank Uncle Lim for sacrificing so much of his precious time to help make our volunteers' work smoother.

Oh yes, we have also been asked to name this new software. What shall we name it? Can we have name suggestions in the comment box below, please? Thanks, everyone!
