《A conversation with the Devil》My husband's birthday was approaching, I was deciding where to celebrate his birthday. In the exciting gourmet world of Bangkok, new restaurants pop up all the time.
I was thinking passionately, 'Maybe I should take him to this new restaurant.'
The Devil on the other side of my mind argued, 'How would you know it is not another disappointment? You did have bad experiences with new restaurants, right?'
I instantly responded, 'It may be different this time. How would I know if I don't try it!'
The Devil sighed, 'Is it your adventurous experience more important than the celebration of your husband's birthday?'
I thought, 'Dear Devil, you win!'
Immediately, I browsed through my own Bangkok's dining bibliography and picked the top restaurant on my list - Le Normandie.
Le Normandie is simply irreplaceable. Whenever there is a special day to celebrate, I like to choose Le Normandie. The magnificent view of Chaopraya River; the pitch-perfect professional service with big smiles; and the consistency of the flavours and food quality; the little good-bye delicacy on your way out of the restaurant, all these contribute to the good memory of Le Normandie. Such memory lingers for a long time.
The surprise of this weekend lunch came when three handsome servers brought out a birthday cake and sang the birthday song while approaching our table. It was warm and touching. The cake was huge for two, they packed the cake nicely for us to take home and continue the celebration. How thoughtful!
The weekend lunch features fresh harvests and high-quality produces from land to sea. The flavour is well-balanced, none of the complementing seasoning or sauces overpowers the original juices of the main ingredients. Personally, I really like the octopus - it's cooked to its perfect texture. The fish course is a delight to the eyes. Coated in black, the toothsome white fish reveals when cutting through it. The souffle is the best in town! It's another unforgettable dining experience at Le Normandie.
On the way home, I delightedly thought, 'Good that I listened to the Devil on the other side of my mind!'
