Zen Is Not in the Temple, Zen is in the kitchen — It’s in the Fire, the Pot, and Your Hands

Zen is often imagined as silence on a mountain, monks in robes, or hours of sitting still.
But Zen never lived far away from life.

Zen lives right here — in chopping vegetables, stirring the pot, feeling the heat of the fire, and paying attention to what is in front of you.

The mind that cooks the meal is not a lower mind.
It is the same mind that awakens — when it is not divided.

When cooking becomes only a task, the mind is asleep.
When cooking becomes presence, the Way reveals itself.

Zen does not ask you to escape the world.
Zen asks you to enter it completely.

No special posture.
No sacred object.
No future enlightenment.

Just this moment.
Just this action.
Just this awareness.

If you can be totally present while cooking a simple meal,
you are already walking the Way.

Nothing is missing.
Nothing is extra.
Nothing needs to be added.

đŸ”„ Chop wood.
đŸČ Cook food.
đŸ§˜â€â™‚ïž Wake up.

Then life moved.

I paused. I traveled. I fasted. I listened.

My relationship with food changed —
simpler,
lighter,

more intentional.

Less doing.
More being.

Food became quieter,
more alive,
closer to what the body truly asks for.

What I learned stayed.
It matured.
It settled.

And when I came back,
it felt natural to begin again
from a deeper place.

C’était mĂ»r.
C’était alignĂ©.
C’est là

Food was never meant to be eaten alone.

It carried me into gatherings — food festivals, plant-based events, long tables, weddings, and quiet moments of giving back.

Sometimes it was a celebration.
Sometimes it was service.
Sometimes it was simply sharing what was available.

What mattered was never the scale, but the intention.

Hands offering. People receiving. Joy moving naturally between us.
Giving became as nourishing as receiving. And sharing felt effortless.

That joy stayed.

C’était partagĂ©.
C’était gĂ©nĂ©reux.
C’est joyeux.

I didn’t follow recipes.

I followed seasons, textures, what was alive and available.

Some days food was barely cooked, other days slowly transformed. Always respectful. Always intentional.

Preparation became a space — to slow down, to feel, to stay aligned.

Food was never separate from life. It was part of the same movement. The same care. The same listening.

I stay present, and I follow what wants to emerge

Because food carries more than taste.
It carries intention, care, and life.

That understanding deepened.

C’est vivant.
C’est simple.
C’est la nature.

I didn’t learn how to cook.

I discovered a way of preparing food —
in presence, in silence,
letting ingredients speak.

Living off-grid with others,
taking what the garden offered,
each meal became a quiet ritual,
a way to connect, to nourish, to share joy.

People came together,
not for something impressive,
but for something that felt fully right —
in the body, through the mind,
touching the soul,
and echoing in the spirit.

That was the beginning.

C’était simple.
C’était juste.
C’est !
