Salam!
In Morocco, Eid is more than just the end of fasting; it is a "Grand Joy" (Farha) where hearts open even before the doors do. If you are wandering among us today, you will hear the phrase "Eid Mubarak Said" at every corner.
It is an open invitation for you to feel the warmth and belonging, as if you were right at home.

We hope to see you around,
Abdu & Marta

Salam!
Tonight is Laylat al-Qadr (The Night of Power), the most sacred night in the Islamic calendar. It is said to be "better than a thousand months"—a night when the heavens open, peace descends, and the spirit of reflection fills every corner of our ancient city.

Why is it called the "Night of Power"? 🕋
It marks the night the Quran was first revealed. The word Qadr signifies "destiny" or "value." It is a time for prayer, deep gratitude, and setting intentions for a bright future.

We wish you all the blessings and miracles ✨️ may your prayers be answered. 🙏🤲

See you in Fes,

Fes in motion:
colours,
voices,
and scents
weaving through the alleys.

Pomegranates glisten, mint perfumes the air, and time slows just enough to notice.

People pass, greet, stop, and cherish.
Life in its simplest beauty.

Here, even an ordinary market feels like a history to tell.

Salam! Labess?
Just yesterday, we were all busy with the Moulay Idriss Festival.

It is a religious and cultural festival held in the Moroccan city of Fes. It is considered one of the largest religious festivals in Morocco. Celebrated in honour of Moulay Idriss al-Azhar, the founder of Fes and one of the oldest and most important religious figures in Morocco. As time coincides with the celebration of the Prophet's birthday, the event attracts large crowds of visitors, Sufi practitioners, and those seeking blessings.

The Moussem (festival) dates back to the reign of Moulay Idriss al-Azhar, who founded the city of Fes in the 9th century AD. A traditional ceremony is held to present the new kiswa (cover) to the shrine of Moulay Idriss al-Azhar. The kiswa features Quranic verses and gold thread embroidery. The Moussem includes evenings of praise, a feasting ceremony for the kiswa, a ceremony for the kiswa's release, and evenings of listening, praise, and hadra. Various Sufi sects, such as the Aissawa, Hamadsha, and Ahl Touat, participate in the Moussem events.

The festival contributes to promoting Morocco's religious and cultural heritage and reflects local traditions and customs. Therefore, the season attracts large crowds of visitors from within and outside Morocco, boosting the city's economic activity.

Salam! Labess?

Today, I take you for a short spiritual walk to a place where knowledge meets beauty, meaning Bou Inania Madrasa.

Built in the 14th century by Sultan Abu Inan Faris, the Bou Inania Madrasa was once one of Fes’s great centres of learning. A place where scholars studied Islamic sciences, theology, and law.

Every time when you step inside... time slows down and you can get easily mesmerised by carved cedar wood, shimmering zellige mosaics, and Quranic verses dancing across marble walls. The courtyard still carries the calm of centuries past, where knowledge and faith once intertwined.

What makes Bou Inania truly special is that it’s also an active mosque and one of the few religious sites in Morocco that non-Muslim visitors are allowed to enter. A rare chance to feel the quiet harmony of devotion and finest Marinid architecture in one sacred space.

I'm sure that nowadays, it stands not just as a monument but as a reminder that beauty and wisdom have always walked hand in hand in Fes.

See you in Fes,
Abdul

Salam! Labass?

Our next brings us back to 1994.

In the heart of the medina, children turn stone ledges into playgrounds while elders rest nearby. This moment, frozen in time, could just as easily belong to today.

That’s the magic of Fes: the walls may be centuries old, but they’re not silent relics.

They’re alive with
laughter,

conversation,

and everyday rhythms that have carried on for generations.

Childhood joy, community gatherings, and the pulse of daily life.

I feel that some things never change, and that’s what makes places like Fez eternal.

See you in Fes,
Abdul

This aromatic blend is used to season a wide range of Moroccan dishes such as tagines, stews, meats, and couscous, giving them a rich and unique flavour.

Salam! Labass? Today, we invite you for a delicious Chicken Tajine. But first let’s talk about it a little bit.

The chicken tajine is a classic dish prepared with tons of flavor from preserved lemons, olives, and onions. It can be cooked on the stovetop in an authentic tajine pot or roasted in a baking pan in the oven, depending on what equipment you have at your disposal. Either way, you'll enjoy a delicious meal that is sure to please everyone at the dinner table.

Traditional tajine cooking keeps the chicken moist and flavorful using steam in a cone-shaped, clay-made pot. Marinating the chicken overnight adds an intense and robust burst of Moroccan flavor. Spices mix as Ras el hanout makes this dish extra special with its blend of spices like cinnamon and ginger.

Some “secret” ingredients involve:

Preserved lemons in salt add brightness to this dish and you really can't replicate their pickled flavor with lemon juice or zest. You can easily buy them at souk.

Smen is a preserved butter that has a somewhat cheesy flavor. It's optional for this recipe, but helps give the tagine its authentic flavor.

Ras el hanout: While no two versions of the Moroccan spice blend - ras el hanout- are exactly the same, it typically includes cardamom, nutmeg, anise, mace, cinnamon, ginger, various peppers, and turmeric. This recipe calls for a homemade ras el hanout, but you can also experiment with the blends available from various vendors.
