Following a racist tirade by the President attacking the Somali community in Minneapolis, ICE operations are targeting Somalis (“They contribute nothing. We don’t want them in our country,” Trump said, which couldn’t be more opposed to how Minneapolis residents cherish our Somali neighbors, friends, and businesses.) The fact that most Somali Minnesotans are US citizens seems irrelevant in what is obviously part of a larger project of ethnic cleansing being carried out in this country.

Real Food Media stands unwaveringly with all immigrant workers, families, and communities in the trenches of this fight—for safety, dignity, and livelihood as basic human rights. Thank you for speaking up and showing up, wherever you are, however you can.

🚨 DESTRUCTION OF UAWC SEED STORAGE FACILITIES IN HEBRON

Talamh Beo condemns in the strongest possible terms the assault by Israeli occupation forces on the Union of Agricultural Work Committees (UAWC) Seed Bank in Hebron. Bulldozers destroyed vital seed storage and infrastructure – a direct attack on food sovereignty, biodiversity, and the right of Palestinians to cultivate their future.

🌱 Seeds are the foundation of life. They hold millennia of knowledge, resilience, and adaptation. The seeds destroyed in Hebron were specially adapted to Palestinian conditions, critical for farmers already facing land theft, settler violence, and water restrictions.

This is not an isolated incident. It is part of the same project of dispossession and genocide witnessed daily in Gaza – targeting homes, schools, hospitals, farmland, and now seeds.

We call on:
🇮🇪 The Irish government to publicly condemn this attack.
🌍 International allies to increase pressure on Israel.
🤝 All who care about food sovereignty to stand with Palestinian farmers.

In a time of climate crisis, destroying seeds is destroying futures.
We stand in unwavering solidarity with UAWC, Palestinian farmers, and all those defending seeds, soils, and survival.

Too often the working people in our food and farm systems are exploited at the expense of their health, safety and dignity

Latest findings from new report remind us why we organize for worker power and a just food and farm system!

Repost
We spent eight months analyzing data from , the Bureau of Labor Statistics and for an updated look at the state of food work in 2025. We found that by basically any measure, food workers fare worse than almost all other workers in the United States

👉 bit.ly/FoodWorkerData2025

~28 million people work in our food system today, and unfortunately this data highlights what we already know: these workers are highly exploited.
▶️ In 2022, food workers were 93% more likely to be food insecure than non-food workers.
▶️ Every year since 2010, the Wage & Hour Division has found more dollars are owed back to food workers than workers in any other industry.
▶️ Injury rates for food production and manufacturing are 50-80% higher than for the average worker.
▶️ Less than 6% of food workers are protected by a union contract. In the service and production sectors, that number is even lower.

The U.S. food system relies on this exploitation, which will only get worse with ramped up immigration enforcement and other Trump policies that hurt workers. That’s why our members are organizing for worker power across the entire food chain.

🌍 For we just released our Food Worker Climate Justice Declaration and platform!

Looking at the ways that food workers are already impacted by the climate crisis, this platform lays out a vision for bridging the climate and labor movements. We must work together to win!

Many FCWA members are already doing climate work, whether organizing for clean air, heat protections, or to stop the use of pesticides. Together, they identified these collective demands

Check out the full platform on our website for testimonies from farm, bakery, dairy, nursery, and other food workers on how this crisis shows up in the workplace.

Join us in demanding the immediate release of Alfredo “Lelo” Juarez, a dedicated and long-time farmworker leader and organizer. (Link in bio to take quick action)

On March 25, 2025, Lelo was violently detained by ICE while driving his partner to her workplace. ICE agents broke his car window when Lelo tried to exercise his rights. He is currently detained inside an ICE facility in Tacoma, Washington.

Lelo has been a farmworker and community leader in Washington since he was 12 years old, and has worked tirelessly for immigrant and farmworker rights. He was one of the initial founders of the independent union Familias Unidas por la Justicia (FUJ), where he helped agricultural workers win paid breaks and overtime. As an organizer with Community to Community Development (C2C), he has been involved in multiple campaigns, most recently working on educating the community and legislators about the exploitative H-2A program.

We believe that ICE may have targeted Lelo for his leadership in standing up for farmworkers and immigrants in his community. The Trump Administration’s mass deportation plan is not only harming individuals and families, but being used as a tool to silence dissenting union and worker leader voices like Lelo’s. ’
We are calling on U.S. Representative Rick Larsen and U.S. Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell to do everything they can to get Lelo free now, and to investigate the potential political motivations for his detention.

It is essential that our community makes itself heard if we want to ensure Lelo’s release. Please take a moment to send an email today. Action link in bio.
