Samrong knong pagoda was founded in 1707. After Khmer Rouge took power in 1975 , one year later the pagoda became one of prisons. All monks were disrobed and were forced to do construction works. Kitchen was used for mild level prisoners, dinning hall was for serious level prisoners and the main temple was used to detain female prisoners and other buildings were for tort and interrogation. After the fall of the Khmer Rouge regime in 1979, the bodies of 10,008 were found out of 10,400 prisoners in 100 graves.
