Xaris had the pleasure of visiting the La Marzocco factory outside of Florence. There are some great players in the coffee machine business but none that quite matches the history of La Marzocco. Founded by the Bambi brothers, Giuseppe and Bruno (later joined by Piero their nephew), La Marzocco has been a pioneer of espresso making for the last century.
Our guide, Silvia, showed great enthusiasm as she took us around the factory from top to bottom, splashed with some great anecdotes along the way. From baristas breaking their jaws on the spring actioned lever machines to her first meeting with the OCD Piero (he’s passionate not OCD as she posits). Well north of 80 now, Piero still heads up the design effort. His latest machine was the GB series was named after his wife, Giovanna, but didn’t want to admit to it to give her the satisfaction (typical Italians). If you were wondering what’s with the lion deco on the machines, that’s the “Marzocco”, a Florentine symbol of victory and triumph. All in all, you’ve won a fan for life. Thanks La Marzocco
