For this week's session of MINDs we had a number of activities planned.
In this 5 speakers who volunteered are given 5 new English words and they are to speak about any topic using these 5 words. Since this was the first Toast Master's session to be ever conducted, only 3 words were given.
They were : Prim, procrastinate and probity.
The initiator for this session was Samhitha. Sravya was the filler, Bharat was the grammarian and 3 out of 5 speakers showed up; Brahmini , Saurav and Tanmay.
The speakers improve their speaking and writing skills (since they have to prepare the content using all the 3 new words).
The audience becomes good listeners (since all of them are given the task to assess the speakers) and everyone's vocabulary expands.
The first speaker ; Brahmini spoke about her experience of taking admission in our college and the next speaker Saurav talked about his experience of seeking permission from his father for a road trip to Goa with his friends.
The next activity was the Table Topic session.
The topics for this week were very interesting and were provided by Komal.
The first topic was 'If you could teach something in life, what would you teach?' On this topic Bharat spoke about teaching chess and how he is passionate about this game . Satwika spoke about being grateful and to never take a helping hand for granted . Tarun spoke about how bullying affects people and strongly discouraged it . Rakshaan spoke about acknowledging imperfections and respecting them and finally Deepak spoke about drinking and dancing during Ganesh Visarjan and how it is disrespectful.
The next topic was 'Something you wanted to become but couldn't.' Anurag and Mrunalini talked about not being able to qualify for CA . Venkatesh spoke about how he regrets making fun of his classmates in school . Komal who was a BPC student spoke about her transition to the field of commerce . Sravya and Sterlin expressed how they wanted to become dancers but couldn't and lastly Niharika about dreaming of becoming an athlete.
The last activity for this session was debate . The controversial topic being 'Men make better managers or women' .
This was undoubtedly a heated debate with each gender supporting their point if view. Quiet a few solid points were stated backed up with legitimate reasons. There was no distinct winner as both the sides portrayed respectable and impressive arguments.
All in all, this weeks session was a success inspire of mediocre attendance.
We thank all the students for their active participation. :)
We have more interesting activities planned up for next week's session. :)
