Happy Pride Month 🏳️‍🌈

For anyone who didn’t know, here’s your annual reminder that Social Bean is owned and operated by two husbands.

Somehow, despite being married, running a business together, spending nearly every waking hour together, and discussing coffee, toasties, and supplier orders far more than any couple should… we’re still speaking to each other.

Most customers don’t really think twice about it, which is exactly how it should be. You come for the coffee, stay for the chat, and hopefully leave with your caffeine needs sorted.

But Pride Month is a good time to celebrate being able to be yourself. While we’ve come a long way, not everyone has the same experience, and that’s why visibility still matters.

We’re proud of what we’ve built together, proud of the community around us, and proud that Social Bean is a place where everyone is welcome. So no matter who you are, there’s always place for you at Social Bean.

Happy Pride Month from the two husbands who somehow thought opening a coffee shop together was a good idea. ☕🏳️‍🌈

There’s a reason why we keep making videos.

There’s a reason why we’re constantly trying new ideas, improving things, and doing everything we can to get our name out there.

It’s not because we’re chasing perfection. It’s not because we’re trying to be the biggest or trendiest coffee shop around.

It’s because we believe in what we’ve built.

Sometimes it’s easy to compare ourselves to businesses with bigger spaces, better visibility, larger teams, or more resources. We look at what others have and wonder what we could do differently.

But then we remind ourselves of something important.

Our shop is smaller than a shed. Every product, every piece of equipment, every menu item has found its place through hard work, creativity, and determination. We don’t have endless space, but somehow we’ve managed to create something we’re incredibly proud of.

The videos, the posts, the events, the long days and early mornings, they’re all part of the same goal: helping more people discover us.

Not because we’re not grateful for where we are, but because we know what this little business is capable of becoming.

Success isn’t always about having the best location or the biggest shop. Sometimes it’s about showing up every day, giving everything you’ve got, and refusing to give up on something you believe in.

So while we’ll continue to work hard, continue to grow, and continue to put ourselves out there, we’ll also take a moment to appreciate how far we’ve come.

Because this little coffee shop may be small, but the heart behind it is anything but.

Sometimes a short getaway is all it takes to remind you what matters most.

Meeting different people and experiencing different hospitality reminded us how powerful simple kindness can be. A smile, patience, and respect cost nothing but can completely change someone’s day.

Working in hospitality isn’t just about coffee or food, it’s about how you make people feel. And really, that should apply to every interaction in life.

Hospitality can be tough. You meet people carrying all kinds of stress and emotions, and you can’t please everyone. But it’s hard to understand why kindness feels so rare sometimes.

Being met with rudeness over simple questions or spoken down to over small things makes no sense. We’re all just doing our best.

This trip reminded us that genuine kindness and hospitality still exist everywhere. No matter how hard some days feel, we’ll keep choosing kindness, welcoming people with warmth, and creating the kind of environment we’d want to walk into ourselves. Because at the end of the day, a little kindness can go a lot further than we think.

A huge thank you to everyone who dropped by today to celebrate our birthday with us. Whether you came for a coffee, toastie, açai bowl, shared our posts, or simply supported us in any way, we truly appreciate every single one of you. The atmosphere today was honestly so special and something we’ll never forget.

Looking back at this journey, it’s crazy to think how far Social Bean has come in just a year. There were so many challenges, long days, and moments of uncertainty, but seeing the support and community around us today made it all worth it. What started as a small idea has slowly grown into something we’re incredibly proud of.

Thank you for supporting our dream and continuing to support small businesses like ours. We genuinely couldn’t have reached this point without all of you, and we’re so excited for what’s ahead 🤍

It honestly feels surreal writing this.

What started as a small idea, a huge leap of faith, and a lot of hard work has now become a place filled with familiar faces, conversations, support, laughter, coffee runs, post-gym stops, match day rushes, rainy mornings and sunny açai bowl days.
