This week’s Barista Spotlight is Rama, our Barista at Expat. Roasters Hokky Citraland, Surabaya. We asked him a few quick questions to get to know the person behind the coffee.
Q: What’s your favourite part about working at Expat. Roasters?
A: Definitely the people. This industry has introduced me to so many genuine and passionate individuals.
Q: What’s the most memorable drink order you’ve made?
A: Probably when a group of our loyal customers asked for a hot latte with some “forbidden latte art” on top 🥹
Q: What’s your favourite bean on rotation right now?
A: Bali Kintamani Natural Espresso. It’s bright and fruity with a playful character, while the sweetness behind the acidity gives the cup beautiful layers. It’s kind of like someone who’s loud on the outside but has a soft heart.
Q: What’s currently on your playlist?
A: Hold On Till May by Pierce The Veil. The song isn’t really about the month, it’s about holding on until life feels a little lighter again. So, if you’re going through a difficult time right now, I hope you choose to stay and keep moving forward, one day at a time.
Q: What’s one underrated coffee drink everyone should try?
A: A Magic with Bali Kintamani and full cream milk. It’s richer, creamier, and definitely worth trying.
Q: How do you like to spend your days off?
A: Netflix and chill, discovering great coffee spots with friends, or a game of billiards with the boys.
Q: What keeps you inspired in coffee?
A: The opportunity to grow every day. Coffee has taught me that consistency, teamwork, and attention to detail are what matter most.
If you’re in Surabaya, drop by Hokky Citraland and say hello to Rama. Who knows, you might even leave with your own custom latte art creation!
