Did you know almost the entire film was written and shot in just 23 days while Wong Kar-wai was taking a break from another production?

That spontaneity became its greatest strength. The film feels alive, full of improvisation, neon lights, handheld cameras and the kind of fleeting moments that can never be recreated.

A modern classic that inspired filmmakers from Sofia Coppola to Barry Jenkins.

Wong Kar Wai believed films should be discovered, not planned.

Rather than following a fixed script, he often rewrote scenes during production, letting the actors, locations and emotions shape the story as filming unfolded.

Maggie Cheung once admitted she struggled with this process and even felt frustrated working with him. Years later, she said she came to understand that his unconventional way of filmmaking was exactly what made their films so special.

Did you know that the word “paparazzi” was born because of La Dolce Vita? One of the photographers in the film was named Paparazzo and his name eventually became the term we use today for celebrity photographers around the world.

Federico Fellini’s 1960 masterpiece also gave cinema one of its most iconic images - Anita Ekberg wading through Rome’s Trevi Fountain, a scene filmed during freezing winter nights that remains unforgettable more than 60 years later.

When it premiered, La Dolce Vita shocked audiences with its bold portrayal of Rome’s glamorous nightlife, was heavily criticized by the Catholic Church and sparked nationwide controversy. Yet it went on to win the Palme d’Or at Cannes and is now regarded as one of the greatest films ever made.

Although its title means “the sweet life,” the film is less a celebration of luxury than a reflection on the loneliness, emptiness and search for meaning hidden beneath fame and glamour.
